Screebe House

Stayed 22-24 April 2025. Easily the best welcome and most comforting stay of all our Ireland trips to date (50+). The stay was a Christmas present from our daughters and booking was a doddle. Our room was perfect, large and old fashioned, with a view out the back to the lough and out the front to the garden. All the bedclothes and pillows were of top quality and the bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast menu was extensive and all the items we choose over two mornings were delicious. Dinner was also top notch, with an emphasis on seafood (which I don't eat). I had venison on night one and, in conversation with staff about my preferences, next day discovered that there would be steak available that night (even though it wasn't on the menu). Unreal service. My wife and I agreed that it was our best stay anywhere to date, and much of the credit for that goes to the managing family, many of who work in the house. Big shout out to Ursula and Michelle, for whom nothing was too much trouble. I have already recommended this venue to my extended family, even though it is genuinely 'out of the way', but throughly worth the journey. The scenery in the area (west to Connemara) is beautiful. We'll be back.

Outstanding 18th century mansion on the shores of Galway Bay. Beautifully restored premises with the addition of a pool, sauna, gym, and jacuzzi. It is truly a place to relax and pamper. Amazing food with daily specials using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

We travelled around Ireland in May with friends. We stayed in some amazing hotels and thought Screebe House would be the ultimate place towards the end of our tour. On arrival there was no one in reception. We had to wait for someone to pass by as not one person was around. We had booked months in advance for a sea view room each for four nights. We did not have the room we expected and told we could move rooms in two days. Notice in our room indicated not to open the windows due to midges but when asking for a fan for each room, they only had one. We were paying well over £400 per room and we had three coathangars (one plastic one which snapped). The pool had only two loungers with no more to be found anywhere. There was a pergola outside but only the frame. No canopy to sit under on the very sunny day on our arrival. Our friends room was so small that the wardrobe door would not open fully as it was too close to the bed. We had already stayed at several other hotels with better facilities and amazing food for half the price. We were so disappointed that we spent the early hours trying to find somewhere else to stay. This we eventually managed and came to an agreement with Screebe paying a much reduced cost for our one night. Very sad to say Vida seemed to be shut away in the office rather than coming out to greet guests. Not good value at all in our opinion.

Had our daughter's naming ceremony and had a wonderful time. All the staff were excellent especially Michelle and Orla, they couldn't do enough for us. They gave us a private room so we felt like we were the only people there! Had a 3 course meal, all of it was delicious. Ideal setting for a special day.

We had a family occasion to Celebrate so 12 of us had a beautiful 3 course lunch and with 2 small children .. and the staff catered to our every need ! The food was lovely, fresh and tasty and the seafood was lovely too .. we then had our coffee’s out on the patio as it was a sunny day too It’s a lovely old country house over looking the water and is perfect for a private party of small wedding .. it is a guest house / Hotel (and they have a seperate swimming pool a few steps away from the main house ) We did not stay as we were staying in Cararoe .. we will go again for sure .. very peaceful and not a typical busy Hotel perfect for a break from city living and enjoying nature ! Prices good (Would need a car to get there )

The restaurant is wonderful. The chef threw in an extra appetizer for dinner- salmon or Brown Trout he had caught earlier in the day topped with these great crispy onions, preserved lemon and served on top of pickled asparagus- excellent. This is on top of what we ordered - beet salad and Ribeye Steak with root vegetables- both excellent. Breakfast is included with the stay- and was a full sit down breakfast-not just a breakfast bar. The Inn is quaint and well maintained, service excellent. The room overlooked a rocky inlet with many Mute Swans. Very picturesque and the gardens beautiful. Highly recommend
