Wave Rock Motel

We loved this place! We randomly stopped here for the night and were super pleasantly surprised by the gorgeous grounds and nice, clean rooms. The staff were lovely and accommodating. The room was nicely presented and clean and tidy, and quite a modern bathroom with great shower pressure. Just an overall, pleasant experience and a little hidden gem in the middle of nowhere.

Our room was fine with very close parking. Surprised how big the hotel is - and all staff are Irish! Good fun cooking our own meat on the in-restaurant bbq. Very close to Wave Rock and the other lesser attractions in the area - but be aware there are a LOT of flies!

We had planned an outback road trip from Perth and wanted to see Wave Rock. Due to the limited facilities in this area, about 4 months before departure I booked our overnight stay here in a Queen room which cost $218- plus 2.5% CCD surcharge for the Thursday night. Our room, which was in the back section, was reasonably quiet. It was clean but lighting poor due to few lights, dark brick walls and dark carpet. There had been an attempt at a basic makeover with the silver padded bedhead and silver bedside tables each with a lamp and a lime green trim and cushion on the bed. Thankfully the bed was comfortable enabling a good night's sleep before our 370km drive to Kalgoorlie. The bathroom had also had a half makeover which freshened it up . It was clean, had good lighting but lacked a few essentials, especially for the tariff. No hand towel, face washer or tissues. The hairdryer was the cheapest one you could possibly buy and the cord was so small you couldn't see in the mirror to use it. The shower had a plastic curtain, which was a bit outdated. Surprisingly, the shower was good and the hot water came through quickly which was welcome. Not a lot of options in Hyden for meals. We ate at the bistro. Most of the items listed on the boards were not available so it was the buffet or nothing. It had a roast beef dish, a few vegetable choices and some salad options. At $27-50 each, it was very basic. You also had the option to cook your own meat which was more expensive. Breakfast was in the Sandelwood restaurant with a choice of continental or hot. We had the continental for $19- each which was fine except for the lukewarm coffee. The bar staff, 1 male, was friendly and knew his job. All the other staff from check in/out, bistro service and breakfast did not seem to know what to do. The whole place seemed very unorganised. Wave Rock was the highlight, not the sleepover or the meals.
