My wife booked the Herdwick for one night to celebrate my birthday and have a bit of a getaway. The room with en suite was very cosy and comfortable. The young lady that showed us to our room was a delight and we actually found out we both had friends back home in Northumberland. We picked our food from the menu and it was absolutely first class. We were up sharp for our breakfast which again was delicious and plenty. Bags packed and a farewell to the wonderful staff. The great thing about the Herdwick is its away from the hustle and bustle of Keswick and just a small drive off the A66 I must have passed the turn off for Penruddock a million times.....Not anymore This is a fantastic little pub and I would strongly recommend it.

I have eaten a lot of steak and ale pies over the years, but this I think is the best I have ever had! To make it better, the Loweswater Gold was excellent as well. To top it off there is an area for drinking and an area for eating where dogs are not allowed. So you can have great food and drink and not be surrounded by dogs.

Arrived late afternoon and was booked in by the gentleman behind the bar, very efficiently despite the fact that it was busy. My friend and I was shown to our room #4, a delightful twin room. So pretty. It had so many lovely touches, a small bottle of Harrogate water, each by our bedside with an ample sized glass. The usual tea and coffee making facilities with yummy biscuits. Plenty of tea bags and lots of milk, you don’t always get enough in some establishments. The room was beautiful turned out. Two very ample single beds with crisp white bed linen., a gorgeous duvet and pillows to die for. The TV was a good size for the room and positioned with care for the occupants at eye level. The shower/toilet room was a tad small but we were only staying one night so it was more than adequate. We ate at the Inn, can highly recommend the belly pork, delicious. The restaurant was busy but at no time were we kept waiting. So impressed with this great find, I would highly recommend.

Hidden gem for food; the steak and ale pie was loaded with meat, new potatoes were perfectly cooked, the teens loved their steaks (and they are fussy!), daughter had veg lasagne, which she said was delicious. We were stuffed after that but couldn't resist the hot chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding, which were gorgeous. Staff and real ales lovely too.

Lovely quaint place. Staff very welcoming. Rooms clean and beds comfy. The food here is fantastic. Breakfast one of best we have had. Proper coffee. We had evening meal in the restaurant which was cooked to perfection. We will certainly go again. Wonderful stay.

Food is tremendous. And pretty cheap. Could do with a tidy, but don’t let that put you off. Amazing steak pie. They only had one alcohol free beer, but from what o could see, the variety of alcoholic drinks was great. One wee lassie waiting on with a full dining room, but seriously good food. Would happily go back.

We stopped in for a beer and decided to stay for pie night. Amazing quality and excellent price (meal included a free pint or equivalent). Can’t recall the last time I had a pie so full of meat! Homemade chips, good veg - a really excellent meal. No doubt we will return whilst we are staying nearby. This is a real hidden gem. Not a swanky pub, but very traditional, welcoming and excellent value.
