The Funky Dodo Backpackers Hostel

My first stop ocean side after a week inland and I loved it here. Ive stayed in a few hostels around the world and it was someone at a hostel in Byron Bay Oz that mentioned this place to me in 2018 so I just had to stay . A brilliant hostel with everything you need and not just for backpakers, it has not just bunk rooms but private and family ones too. Met some great people and am still in touch with them. roy was on hand and happy to help even inbetween constantly trying to better the place working hard on DIY etc. Close to every part of Hopkins its a perfect place to stay.

We had such a great stay at the Funky Dodo! Anna and Roy the hosts were amazing along with the other staff members. My children and I, ages 14 and 24, stayed in the two treetop suites. They were fully equipped with a private bathroom and solar heated showers. The room was large, and the bed was comfortable. Located right on the main street of the village of Hopkins, it was easy to walk to all the local restaurants. I often overheard Anna and Roy helping guests arrange transportation and excursions, I had all of these things already in place or else I would’ve taken advantage of this. There is a fully equipped kitchen, as well as a dining table, and a majority of the guests were utilizing these amenities. There is a grocery store within a one minute walk of the Hostel. There is a lovely group of hammocks that are great for relaxing and reading a book. I also enjoyed my afternoon snuggles on the deck while I relaxed with one of the cats that lives at the hostel. I felt 100% safe, as they have a security guard who stays overnight, there is never no one on site. There is also parking in front if you have a rental car like we did. The hostel was extremely clean and well kept although I did not use the shared bathroom facilities, so I cannot comment on those. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for accommodations that are centrally located and budget friendly. They had the dorm rooms as well as other private accommodations that use the shared washroom facilities. Thank you Anna and Roy and the rest of staff for helping to make our time in Hopkins enjoyable.

Outstanding hostel centrally located in a really chill town. The owners are so kind. We really enjoyed the hammocks and the mangos The place was clean and green. Bikes for rent super cheap. Comfortable beds

I stayed at the Funky Dodo with 6 of my friends in their dormitory rooms (8 beds in a room), and we had a great time. One of the owners, Roy, is definitely a character but is a great host. He gave all my friends and I towels for free and gave great recommendations for things to do in Hopkins. I didn’t catch the name of the other owner, but she was very sweet and kind. What I thought made the hostel so nice was the mix of people staying there. While our group was at Funky Dodo, there was a Swiss dude, a Portuguese girl, a British girl, two Dutch guys, a few French guys, and some other Americans. It was cool to see and talk to all people from different countries.
