We were in Hopkins for a wedding last week. I will start by saying how lucky we were b/c the weather looked bad due to Hurricane Julia. Thankfully it missed Belize, but we still got 11 inches of rain in 3 days. We were very nervous about flooding, but the area was fine and did not flood. Roads were drivable, etc. Room: originally booked the Colonial Penthouse Room, but that building leaked due to heavy rainfall, so we were upgraded to the Jasmine unit in the next building. It was wonderful w/ 2 br, 2 ba, full kitchen. Very happy. Resort: it’s very small, quaint, and a little dated. There are a few pools you can use, and 1 has a swim up bar. There was a TON of construction and renovation happening while we were there. It was inconvenient b/c some restaurants were not open and construction mes, etc. Overall, it was fine. It really didn’t impact our stay too much. The resort lost power a few times but was back on within minutes. Again, it wasn’t a huge issue for us. Staff: Unbelievable service! The staff at this resort are by far its biggest asset. They seem to work 15+ hours a day as many were there by 6 am and there until 10-11 every night. Those who made our stay so great were: Darwin, Bruno, Captain Larry, and Gabrielle. So nice to our group and just went out of their way to make us feel at home. As mentioned, there was a hurricane and heavy rain while we were there which created a mess on the beach. The staff worked very hard to clean up debris, etc. and did a fabulous job with a situation that was out of their control. Food: We were a little disappointed w/ the lack of options, but this was mainly due to construction, weather and things being closed on and off-site. Off-resort, We ate at Baja Fiesta (across the street), ordered pizza delivered from Driftwood Pizza, breakfast down the street at Beaches and Dreams (in the Barracuda)- very good. On-site, we ate breakfast most mornings in what would’ve been tne Paddle House. It was great. We also had dinner there one night but ordered and ate it on the Dock, which was very nice. Kids ordered lunch at the pool a few times and seemed to enjoy fish and chips the best. The shrimp ceviche was also very good. Transportation: some in our group did the resort shuttle, and some booked private shuttles a little cheaper through aviator. Both options worked fine and were on time, both had AC, and both offered to stop at the grocery on the way to the resort to get food/drinks. It’s about 2 hrs and 25 min from the airport, but the drive wasn’t bad at all and is scenic. The coastal Highway was closed while we were there due to the hurricane, but when it’s open, the drive is almost cut in half. Excursions: We did the 1/2 day snorkel trip which was only about 2.5 hrs b/c they were very Kate leaving then didn’t have enough equipment. So we had to drive way out of the way to pick up more equipment in Tobacco Caye Island, which was beautiful. The snorkeling was amazing g just not exactly as they adv
