Thistledown on Oak

This gem has just topped my personal best hotel ever list. I've stayed in themed hotels before and while those others were fine, they always felt kitschy and childish. Not so for the gorgeous, luxurious Thistledown on Oak. Everything from the entry (both the main lobby and the side entry off the cute plaza by the coffee shop), to the halls, and especially in the rooms is well-appointed and a feast for the eyes. We enjoyed staying in the Griffin's Loft. It's the perfect get-away for couples who want to indulge in sensual luxury. The towels and sheets were luxurious, the mattress was comfortable, and all of the finishes exceeded our expectations. Don't tell the front desk, but we happened to meet the owner and got a guided tour of the penthouse. The images on the website are good, but they can't convey the coziness and luxury of that room. That one is worth grabbing your besties and bathing suits (or not, I don't judge) for the private hot tub on the roof. We didn't tour the Juliet Room, but I can imagine it's everything the Griffin is. More rooms are coming soon. If you're looking for a great weekend in Hood River, look no farther than the Thistledown on Oak.

I have been on a 50-state quest since I was a little girl, and my last state happened to be Oregon. I wanted to celebrate with a unique experience and stay in OR and Thistledown on Oak was the BEST choice- it did NOT disappoint. When we walked into the room, the beauty and details of the room were stunning, almost overwhelming. We stayed a week and saw something new in the room every day! Hood River has so much to offer for a week's stay, with gorge-ous drives from Mt. Hood to the Dalles, so many wineries and waterfalls. If you love art, antiques, beauty, and quality, this is the hotel for you! And- the staff and owners are amazing- great service!

My husband and I celebrated Valentine’s a week late, and it ended up being the perfect way to unwind after a tough week. Thistledown on Oak is even more stunning in person than in photos. From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by beautiful, thoughtfully curated art. We stayed in the Penthouse, and it was absolutely magical—ornate, elegant, and breathtaking. Every detail is so well thought out! What looks like art in each room is actually the TV, the blinds are remote-controlled, and the bathroom floor is heated—such a luxurious touch. There’s even a cozy nook perfect for snuggling up and watching TV. Though we didn’t get to use the outdoor hot tub or grill, the romantic nighttime lighting was mesmerizing. We loved it so much we stayed in and cooked on our second night! Kimi, the manager, was incredibly helpful, and the owners, Bradford and his wife, are simply wonderful. Our getaway was unforgettable, thanks to this incredible hotel and its amazing team. I highly recommend staying here—every room is a dream!

My wife and I made a last minute journey to Hood River to celebrate a family birthday and not wanting to make a late night drive through the Gorge home, we decided to stay over for the evening. We were lucky to discover Thistledown on Oak Street, we were even luckier they had availability as this Boutique hotel is truly something special. Each room is unique and we were directed to Griffin’s Loft, One of the 3 rooms currently available in this one of a kind hotel. As we walked in we were amazed by its unique blend of beautiful antiques, bold colors and warm homie feel. But cleverly integrated are all the modern touches you expect with at a high end luxury hotel. Like wifi, fridge, coffee maker, wine glasses and treats, but when you ad in the picture frame big screen televisions that are seamlessly integrated into the decor, or the fireplace with leather sofa with blankets and power curtains?? This place is special. And the bed…. Adjustable comfort you just don’t find in any hotels, one of the most comfortable I have experienced. Though the building is built is 100 plus years old, Thistledown on oak is relatively new we were told that the current 3 rooms will be expanded in the near future and we can’t wait to see what those look like, and once this place is discovered they will need the extra availability. I can imagine seeing this place on the Conde’ Nast’s lists of must-visit hotels soon, As this place is over the top magnificent! And the bonus is its just minutes off I-84 in the heart of downtown Hood River. Check it out!!
