This is the place to enjoy the solitude and wonder of the Big Bend. •INSIDE FEATURES•The living room area is furnished with a loveseat and a coffee table. Tucked away in the coffee table cubbies, you’ll find a few of our favorite books and board games, as well as an extra cozy throw blanket. There is also an acoustic guitar and a telescope for more entertainment. The kitchenette is equipped with a dual burner propane stove top and mini fridge/freezer. Dishes, cookware, some spices, coffee and teas are provided. There is a breakfast bar inside and a picnic table outside for dining. A Berkey water filter is provided to filter water for drinking and is easily filled from the kitchen faucet.The bedroom features a memory foam queen-size bed complete with bedding and pillows. In the full private bathroom, you’ll find towels and toiletries to meet your needs. Please note that you must use the trashcan provided to dispose of all toilet paper and toiletry items to avoid clogging the system. •OUTSIDE•The casita is situated on 10 acres of open land, inviting you to explore and immerse yourself in nature. As you wander around, keep an eye out for fascinating rocks and fossils.There is a fire pit and anti-gravity chairs that fully recline to provide the ultimate night sky viewing. There is also a disc golf basket with discs to practice your throws while you grill. Remember to bring your own wood, charcoal, and lighter fluid!•OFF GRID•This is an off grid home that is powered by the sun. That being said it does have limitations; please do not expect to charge your electric car. In the event of excessive cloudy weather we do have an alternative method to charge the batteries. •WATER CONSERVATION•This is the Chihuahuan Desert, water is scarce and of utmost importance. We collect all of our water during monsoon season. You have to conserve water if you stay here. It's as easy as turning the faucet off while you brush your teeth and taking quick showers. •FIRE SAFETY•Fire extinguishers are located under the kitchen sink and on the center post outside. If you have a camp fire please be mindful of fire safety. Do not have a fire if winds are high. The desert is a dry place and fires can spread very easily and very quickly. NEVER leave a fire unattended and be sure to EXTINGUISH all flames when you are finished.•HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW•-This is a dark remote area; we recommend planning your trip to arrive before dark. Google Maps will take you right to it! -Cellular service is scarce out here. If you are using gps be sure to set it up while you have service. -There is a grocery store in Alpine and in Study Butte. All stores close at 9pm or earlier. -There is only a handful of restaurants here. During peak season the wait for a table can easily exceed 2hrs.-Headlamps are provided for navigating the property at night.-This property shares 10 acres with its sister property, El Coyote Terlingua - Turtle Mountain. See the Milky Way in all it's glory in our "dark skies" territory and from the brand new 6-person hot tub ("hot" in the winter - a "cooling pool" in the summer - you adjust the temperature to meet your preferences).This location (45 min from BBNP) allows the enjoyment of a huge assortment of wildlife viewing - migratory birds of all colors, shapes and forms, dove, quail, ravens, red-tail hawks, mule deer, javelina, rabbits, fox, wolves, and even an occasional black bear, bobcat or mountain lion. In addition to the wildlife, visitors have enjoyed marveling at the wide and diverse array of plant and cactus life! Another bonus is that this location provides miles of primitive walking/hiking/biking/ATV opportunities. Be sure and inquire about special excursions offered by the hosts.If visitors choose to fly-in, to the nearby landing strip, the hosts will gladly assist with transportation (please inquire ahead-of-time).The apartment is rustically furnished with brand new custom ordered furnishings, including queen-size beds/mattresses. Tabletop heater and a fire pit are also available to ensure the enjoyment of the outdoors, even on cooler evenings. The apartment comes equipped with a sophisticated mini-split heating and air conditioning system as well as a back-up generator for any unexpected power outage.The apartment, currently, sleeps 4 but can sleep 6 with the use of 2 new, large, heavy-duty cots with thick cot mattresses, upon request. In addition, if additional space is needed for additional guests, the hosts' original property is also available near by - an RV that can accommodate 4 more guests (please inquire). The hosts live near, but a bit removed, on the acreage, and are readily available for information/advice and/or socialization (previous guests have remarked how much they enjoyed "happy hour" on the porch with the hosts!) and if any need arises.The hosts continue to take great pains to insure that our facilities meet and exceed recommended sanitation guidelines.Please be aware that this is a non-smoking property (due to allergies - both inside and outside) and that no pets are allowed (for your pet's safety).
