OYO Cliffemount Hotel

We booked despite some of the less favourable reviews and with low expectations and had the most wonderful stay. This hotel may not be the most modern or luxurious but it’s less than a quarter of the asking price of B&Bs in the area that don’t have the mind blowing beautiful location of cliffemount Our room had a balcony and watching the bay with a cup of tea after a walk on the beach will be a memory to treasure. The room was clean and modern, the staff helpful and friendly and were truly dog friendly. The hotel is undergoing renovations atm snd I’m sure will be amazing with all the work completed. I loved our stay. It was exceptional value. We look forward to returning

Sadly this hotel is now grim,unloved and not looked after professionally. I don't think anyone cares if hotel is clean and not bothered about repeat business. Almost seem to be deliberately letting it deteriorate! Unclean in all areas. Had to regularly walk past piles of laundry and vac. Bedding old and stained. Bathroom dusty,dirty and mouldy. Old broken items dumped around hotel. Filthy door for entrance to bar toilet. Grim untidy dining area. Thick dust many surfaces. Short staffed. Leaving waitress to do all the work of many people. Noone in charge for me to complain to. Waitress told me to email Saram hotels as noone in charge to deal with my complaints. Would have asked for money back if a Manager around. Will sadly not want to return with the way it is currently run. They currently have this hotel up twice on trip advisor also under just Cliffemount Hotel. Put pics on both sites.

The hotel is dated and warn, and this is clear, the staff were pleasant. The whole hotel needs a revamp - it's in such a desirable location but I understand covid/lock-down will have had a huge impact on things. However, we would stay here again, Runswick is beautiful, we had room 3, with a bay window facing Runswick bay and beach it was stunning! The other rooms at the back had balconies, if we stayed another night we would have chosen one. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment, we used the hotel purely as a last minute night away. The bed wasn't comfy i'm afraid :( but again a quick night away we can live with this. You could also smell the kitchen when entering (like the oil in the fryers), but seeing the layout I don't know what can be done for this. The hotel could be stunning given the location but it's not always a choice to pump £ into businesses at the moment due to covid and I totally understand that.

I rang up 31/5/22 to enquire about the room on 1/6/22 for a baby cot and booked the room through the phone. The lady did not mention the room was a non refundable room. The exact same day I booked the room on 31/5/22 I need to change my booking but they said i cannot because it’s a non refundable room. I tried to complain but they said they’ll call me back. They literally called me back on 4/6/22 after the stay which is ridiculous. About the stay the view was phenomenal but the room is horrible. The headboard you can see a head shape dent. There’s cracks and cobwebs in the room. The wallpaper overlap wallpapers. The bathroom sealant has mould and the corners have holes. The staff were really nice though.

Perfect location overlooking the bay. Staff were friendly and helpful. The public areas, reception, dining room and had is quite basic but has high potential with some work. The dining room has wonderful view of bay and hotel garden. I had the cheapest breakfast and at just £5 was value for money. The gardens are wonderful and full of colour already. The bedroom I had was the cheapest but I managed to get a lovely view of the countryside and bay. The room was clean, plenty of space and comfy bed. I was really pleased with it. However, I noticed the rooms with a full review with a balcony and I have booked one because it looks perfect! I was told that these rooms are much better so look forward to checking them out! The village is so quaint and the locals so friendly and made me welcome. This is so important to me as I was there on my own. If you struggle with steps and hills, I would say it is worth driving down to the beach carpark. However, I did the walk up and down once, and will do again. Overall, I love this hotel and village x

OYO direct booking service was efficient. NB breakfast wasn't included. Our room, Jarvis, was on the first floor on the corner, great first impression due to two windows & great views. Also a balcony with table/chairs. Two comfortable chairs were badly marked so didn't use them. Tea/coffee making facilities were adequate. Bathroom was clean, two nice bath towels (would have liked a hand towel also) & plenty of hot water. Large bed was very firm, would have personally liked a soft mattress topper - but slept well due to the walking & sea air. Breakfast was good & staff mainly friendly & helpful. Had a meal on the second night - salmon & potatoes hot but green beans cold. My comment re the table having visible marks on was not dealt with appropriately, & was followed by a half-hearted attempt at cleaning with a wet dishcloth. I understand that some staff are new & being trained - maybe a manager needs to be around to check on standards/supervise? Generally the whole hotel needs some TLC as tired-looking decor/fittings. Would stay again because of the views & location, but would have our evening meal at the Ellerby Inn.
