Asterias Village

Stayed here early September and had a wonderful stay. Room was really spacious, the balcony didn't get any sun but this was a welcome relief after a day around the pool. The shower was lovely and powerful. The pool area was stunning, the renovation makes it feel very luxurious, there was never a shortage of sunbeds no matter time we went to the pool and they were really comfy too - even the 'traditional' beds. Only slight negative was the slippy pool, although it did provide some entertainment watching people trying to style out their slips - myself included!! Food at the pool bar was always lovely, fresh and plenty of choice. We had a late flight home so we left our bags in reception and made use of the pool showers which were pretty good, could just do with a shelf to stop clean clothes getting wet! Hotel is ideally located between Koutouloufari and Piscopiano so perfect for exploring all the different tavernas and restaurants. We never ate in the same place twice in the evening and didn't have a single bad meal. Also - the guy in the shop across the road was brilliant!!

The family of four spent nine wonderful days in the sun at Asterias Village. We have only good things to say about the place and the staff. Everyone greeted us with warm friendliness. The apartments are practically furnished and come with essential air conditioning. The staff transports your luggage, drives the shuttle bus, and provides good answers to most questions. When we had a late evening departure, we were offered a transfer to another apartment on the last day for a small fee, giving us an extra day by the pool. Bravo! The location is perfect, in the middle village (of three) on the hill above Hersonissos. The hotel is surrounded by good restaurants. The walk down to Hersonissos takes 15-20 minutes and can easily be done without the shuttle bus (but the bus is more necessary for the uphill return). A general problem for the area is the lack of good jogging routes. There are no dedicated walking/bike paths, and we also struggled to find "round trips" that did not involve jogging on the highway for parts of the distance. It should be noted that the temperature in the area in July is so high that jogging is not particularly appealing. There are quite nice beaches in Hersonissos, and you can find them in both directions – but we recommend going to the right when you get down to the town. Prices for beach chairs vary A LOT, up to 50 euros for two. If you take a taxi to Stalis Beach (about 20 euros, 15 minutes), you will find a much nicer and quieter beach. Much has been said about Crete, but we want to highlight the fantastic hospitality, warmth, and joy that the locals radiate. This is miles away from the tourist protests reported from Spain. We will definitively return to Crete and to Asterias Village.

The hotel was good. I think the photos are a bit misleading. This hotel is on a steep hill with a lot of steps to the main road. I personally wouldn’t recommend if you have baby but it’s personal preference. We also had an issue with cockroaches but after telling reception they sprayed our room every day. Breakfast was good. All the normal things as standard. We went out for lunch every day and had tea in the restaurant attached to the hotel. Overall it was a nice hotel, very friendly staff and all the guests were friendly as well.

Great sized room, booked as self catering with a sea view. Standard Greek double ring facilities, fridge, toaster, kettle…and a Nespresso machine! Air conditioning was included, but (as expected) the safe deposit box was payable (€2/day). Quite a few stairs (60) down from street level to pool / bar / reception so beware if you’re mobility impaired. Staff were outstanding across the board from cleaners to management. A high standard of housekeeping was evident in all areas. The pool bar was well stocked (didn’t eat in it) and the hotel’s restaurant (Oliva) was fabulous on the single opportunity we took…highly recommended!

Arrived on Monday 14th and on arrival were met by Maria in reception, who could not help us enough over the whole holiday. We booked a Superior room which had a large bed, good balcony, excellent air conditioning, fridge and shower. We had booked breakfast every day and were not disappointed, lots of variety of cold and hot food to look after all tastes. Pool area is excellent with lots of sun beds, loungers and bean bags, pool very clean. Staff all friendly and very helpful. Only downside to the hotel is that there are a lot of steps, and some elderly people or unfit guests could struggle. Location is fabulous set between 2 small adjoining villages with loads of great restaurants serving traditional Greek food. Great holiday to relax and enjoyed the week.

As always left to my wife to book nearly thirty years since I visited Crete . Amazed whe dropped off , cleanliness , friendliness and all at 130 am . Room spotless , breakfast enough to have a different style every day for a week . Clearly made the effort to cater for Brits . Beautiful poolside a few early risers to grab a sunbed but plenty and very very comfy double beanbag beds as well as traditional sun loungers and huge four posters that allow for strategic positioning of a square sheet, vertical , horizontal whatever you want
