We have just returned from our 1st trip to The Ivy and stayed for 4 nights. I researched places to stay on Trip Advisor before booking, and this B&B came out top. Now I can see why. Darren, Roz and their parents gave us a great Black Country (yes!) welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were well presented with comfy beds and the breakfasts were 1st class, with attention to providing the guest with whatever they fancy - even if not on the menu (thanks, Darren for grueling over my 'fried slice'!). Darren is very attentive and gave us useful hints and tips about places to visit or eat without being intrusive. His (and Mom Chris's) friendly banter really made you feel like part of the family. You can see from the visitors book that people genuinely return frequently - always a good sign. Location: This is ideal. The B&B is at the end of Hawkshead village, with 4 good pubs and a supermarket within a couple of minutes walk. There are good walks from the village and the hosts provide walking guides or friendly advice. The only downside for us was our decision to take a 1 year old baby to a B&B - not ideal! We had to move some furniture such as TV/ kettle to avoid accidents. Even so, we were accommodated with heated up baby food, travel cot and high chair...with baby treated like a little prince. My advice? Get family to have the baby for a couple of nights and visit The Ivy for a well earned break! We hope to do just that next year.
