My recent stay at the Premier Inn in Harrogate was not an experience I would wish to repeat. Upon arrival we queued up as both of the auto check in machines were not working. The person in front of us had a problem with their key card and was getting it replaced. We checked in and were given a card, so we made our way to the 5th floor by lift, we got to our room and found that our key card did not work. I left my wife (who is in her seventies) in the corridor while I went back to reception only to find a queue of people all of whom appeared to be having trouble with their key cards. I was given a replacement card, went back up to the fifth floor and tried my card.. It did NOT work, I again left my wife in the corridor and returned to reception. Again there was a queue of people with the same apparent problem. When my turn came, I noticed that the receptionist was throwing some cards in the bin (he must have been as frustrated as I was. He offered me to ‘pick any card’. I asked for two cards which he readily agreed, I also asked that my room be opened by a staff member if I was again unable to enter and I was told ‘no problem’. I returned to my room and tried my first card, it did not work, I tried the second card and gained entry. First impressions was an ok room. Unfortunately, my wife was unable to close the bathroom door as it was swollen at the bottom. The only way to close it was with brute force which made a noise and I was conscious of disturbing other guests. When I used the bathroom I noticed that the doorstop had the end missing which resulted in the door handle making a dent in the wall. All in all, not a good experience after a five hour drive and one I would not wish to repeat Paul Stanley
