A great, fun and educational experience with a tasty meal at the end of it! I learnt a lot and enjoyed the cooking class, was given lots of information and tips and thoroughly enjoyed myself. From the basics of splitting a coconut and grinding the flesh, making milk and cream, grinding spices, knowing how to pair things so they look good on your plate and categorising your vegetables, I learnt a lot in 90 mins or so. But Sulochana made it very enjoyable too and we had a lot of laughs (mostly at my expense! ). I was the only one to attend on my morning so missed on the group experience but had the benefit of one-on-one tuition which was brilliant. A lovely lady as were her assistants and the setting is beautiful too with lovely views from the garden across the river. I’d love to stay in the accommodation there if I’m ever lucky enough to travel to Sri Lanka again.

This homestay is not central but is quirky and charming with lovely river views. On arrival you are greeted by very friendly people and a big soppy Labrador. I love dogs but be aware in case you don’t. The room was large with a thatched bathroom. Good Mosi curtains provided . Water is filtered so no plastic bottles which is a big tick. The only downside is that the door to the room is glassed so the landing light shone through which was annoying as can be seen from bed and disturbed sleep . I switched the landing light off but it did not stay off. Perhaps a door curtain could be installed? Dining was on a covered terrace overlooking the river . In the morning little squirrels were running around which was cute. Arrived when it was dark so I can’t say what was around in the area but there did not seem to be a lot so eat before you arrive or accept you must eat at the accommodation. Eating there is no loss however - supper was delicious. Supper was served as a buffet in a traditional styled kitchen and the food was all good. The aubergine curry was outstanding. Breakfast was extremely modest which surprised me. I am not sure if I missed something , misunderstood or it was not all out but basically all I got to eat was fruit and curd so was left feeling hungry. Overall a lovely stay though and one of my favourite places I stayed when in Sri Lanka.

We visited Thotopula for a cookery lesson. It was highly enjoyable, interesting and amusing. We are excited about trying to do this at home. Sulochana was an excellent teacher, who tailored her lessons to appropriately stretch her students. This was one of our favourite experiences so far in Sri Lanka. 100% recommended. Plus, you get to eat the food too! Best curry ever. The aubergine curry was gorgeous. Thank you Sulochana.

A place with a lot of personality, the food was absolut so deliciuos. They made what we wanted for breakfast and dinnner. The food was homemade and the stuff was so lovely! Recomend it to everyone who loves a place with personality.

An unforgettable stay and the most perfect place to experience a "homestay" holiday stay. It was lovely to see the passion and genuine enthusiasm for the hospitality they offered. The food was truly exquisite and prepared by Sulochana. The family is truly the highlight of this home. A quiet and beautiful location too.

My friend and I stayed for two nights at this lovely place. We enjoyed a big 3 bed family room with kitchen and a stunning terrace with serene views over the River. From the first til the last minute we pampered and taken care off like family members. I loved the hospitality and great communication with the lovely owners. Their cooking class is top notch as well. If you looking for a relaxed stay a bit away from busy Kandy town then this is your place to be. Thumbs up!

Amazingly kind host, we were welcomed with open arms. The food was also really amazing, with both for breakfast and dinner a lovely buffet of different local foods. Also the view on the river gorgeous in the morning. Definitely recommend to stay at this place in Kandy!

What a lovely family welcomed us in their house. The food was delicious, the rooms very clean and service / hospitality are simply the best! We would definitely stay here again of we could. It is one of those holiday experiences you don’t forget: homestay in Sri Lanka at it best!

The location is a bit of a journey from the centre of Kandy but this was very welcome to get away from the traffic in town. You really felt you were staying in a family’s house and were treated very well. The room was huge and had a balcony from where we could watch the many thousands of fruit bats flying up the river at dusk; this was something we absolutely loved. The food was excellent and Sulochana is a great cook who runs cooking demonstrations which we have no doubt would be fun given her personality.
