Grand Hotel Haikou (Soon to be Fairmont Haikou)

The hotel and the area are amazing. The sea is near, the area has a swimming pool and a big park. I recommend to book a sea view room. The breakfasts are delicious

Front desk Megan Sui provided excellent service from check in to check out, reminding elderly to avoid using slipper in bathroom. Make effort to enquire how is our stay when we are on way out for dinner. Breakfast staff 蔡宛蓉is ever ready to provide her service to improve our breakfast experience. Room floor gets sticky probably due to humid weather and proximity to sea. Accommodation is aged. Location is good for beach going or staying in, nearest shopping mall is a Didi ride away. Gym equipment are well adequate for a complete workout. Both indoor/outdoor pools, hot bath and sauna are available.

This 4 star-ish hotel resort features quite a big pool area with 3 different depth levels as well as some hot spring baths. The sandy public beach is across the road and it was ok for a swim. It is in a relatively remote location with nothing much in terms of shops and restaurants in the hotel vicinity so you ll depend on hotel food(meh) and deliveries. The room had a really bad humid smell and we had to run the dehumidifer non stop to make it bearable. I know Hainan is tropical, but we stayed in many other hotels and this one had it worst making me conclude the smell was due to room not being used/vented for a long time. The worst thing however, by far, was the pool safety megaphone. Basically there was a loud speaker (picture 3) in the middle repeating about safety in 30 second intervals from morning till evening even when nobody was near the pools. Loud enough to be heard from room balconies. Why,anyonye sane would install such an annoyance is beyond me. Breakfast was adequate and reception(Ivy) spoke decent English.

First off, all staff are so polite and welcoming! They will smile and greet you, from the moment you exit your ride to the pool area where you can go soak in the hot spring. I really enjoyed my stay here, it was extremely peaceful and quiet, I’m sure peak season might be different though. The beach across the road is lovely to sit by and the sand is clean. I enjoyed my breakfast and thanks to Ernest for helping me with check in, and allowing me to split my booking so I could get buffet dinners since I had no partner checking in with me. He was welcoming and explained everything well in English, thank you to Megan for answering my questions and updating my buffet code and Prima for the swift check out. I hope to come again here, while the hotel is a little old now they make up for in service. The housekeeping staff does a great job and cleans the basin and the room is spotless when you come back! The only complaint I have is that the tv has 1 English Channel and that switches to Japanese movies sometimes. At the buffet dinner, the manager helped me choose a hot pot of my choice, and showed me where to get everything, the second time she brought me a plate of the soup of the day, she was so kind and lovely, I didn’t catch her name but I have to say thank you to her aswell. Breakfast is delicious and there’s a variety of whatever you like. Desserts are divine!! The hotsprings are lovely in chilly February and there’s an indoor pool too. Everything from the service to the rooms were very good. Enjoyed our stay very much.

This time the room was clean and not smelly. We love this hotel . Maybe it’s time for an upgrade for food delivery as it’s sometimes a burden to walk down to the gate to get food delivery . Maybe a robot as in many other hotels will be a good addition. One more thing that is a bit uncomfortable which is freezing cold bathrooms and showers at the outdoor pool . I fell sick today after leaving the hotel from walking in the freezing cold bathroom to use it when I am swimming outdoor . It is really uncomfortable and not healthy at all. A proper temperature will be much better. It makes the use of the bathrooms in that part painful. Apart from that we always love everything in this hotel. We will stay again .
