Footsteps Eco-Lodge

wonderful setting, lovely yoga space, comfortable accommodation, excellent food, very friendly and helpful.The staff were always helpful and lodges were very clean, highly recommended,Different menu overnight and BBQ night was wonderful with music.

We spent 3 weeks travelling around The Gambia and Footsteps was our favourite place. From the moment we arrived David, the owner, went out of his way to make us feel welcome and was always around to give help and advice. The little huts were lovely and along with the rest of the lodge, kept spotlessly clean. The food was delicious. The whole place had a really lovely, happy atmosphere. We chatted from people all over the world. The bbq evening with local drummers was great fun. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!

Linda and David have creates an amazing place and experience at their eco lodge. The staff are so friendly, caring and helpful and the food cooked fresh by their amazing chef was amazing every single day. There's lots to experience or just chilling, beautiful white sandy beach nearby, fantastic value for money and 100% sustainable

We loved staying here. You have all the facilities you can wish for. And they have thought about making it environmentally-friendly in every aspect. This is truly an Eco-lodge. The food is really good. And there are plenty of things to keep you entertained while staying here. The staff and owners are so friendly and helpful. Guests, owners and staff all talk with each other, and it almost feels like a little family. The staff is clearly treated well, not working long hours. And being paid well. We can not recommend it enough!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Footsteps, which really lives up to its green credentials. Sunbird house was spacious and comfortable, though we didn’t test its self-catering capability, preferring to eat with the other guests. The staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. Unsurprising when you consider a) the collaborative nature of Gambian culture and b) the way they are valued by David, the owner. He employs them for the whole year despite the tourist season not lasting for more than six months. Many have stayed at Footsteps for decades. Difficult to pick any individual out, but we did particularly enjoy our afternoon walk with Lamin, where we saw thirty bird species new to us in under two hours within a short distance from the lodge! A former park warden, he is trying to restart the natural history and cultural museum in Gunjur, but needs funding. It’s a really worthwhile project. Why aren’t tourist companies getting behind this – it’s in their interests. Many guests return to Footsteps – and so might we - and you can’t get a better recommendation than that!

Probably the best testament I can give Footsteps is that I have already booked again for 2026. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 week stay; there were plenty of activities on offer if I wanted to explore and plenty of opportunities to relax. The roundhouse was really comfortable and spacious and the staff kept it spotlessly clean. I always ate at the lodge, the food was plentiful, delicious, beautifully presented with plenty of choice. The warm Atlantic Ocean was wonderful, the craft and yoga areas were interesting and attractive, the gardens beautiful. All the staff were attentive and helpful, David and Linda delightful hosts who attracted interesting guests. What's not to like ?
