Fantastic visit! Definitely 5-stars. An easy 10-minute drive from Galena but a world apart. You can tell that Hawk Valley has been a labor of love for the friendly and attentive owners. So many thoughtful touches - a welcome plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies, coffee bar, a fall snack mix. Beautifully landscaped grounds with plenty of areas to sit, relax and take in the views. Room was immaculately clean. And the breakfast! Wow. Even though it was cold, windy and rainy for our stay, it didn’t dampen our enthusiasm for this wonderful retreat.

Third stay at Hawk Valley Retreat for my wife & me. Another quiet & comfortable & relaxing 2 nights, and the owners Jim & John continue to make hospitality their #1 priority. This was the first time we've stayed when there wasn't snow on the ground, and the views from the main house deck across the valley were just as beautiful. John's breakfast offerings were top notch & tasty as usual, and we enjoyed our chat with him about the resident goats & his large variety of garden flowers that are used to brighten up the decor throughout the property. We will continue to seek opportunities for Hawk Valley getaways, as we recommend the same to family & friends & other travelers we meet around the Midwest.

We had a great time! Everything was so beautiful and clean! We really enjoyed the special (drlicious$ breakfast we had Saturday and Sunday. This is the place to go to remember how great life really can be! I strongly recommend this beautiful place! John and Jim are a treasure!

We had a wonderful experience at Hawkeye Retreat, the cottage was extremely well maintained and charming. The food was absolutely amazing… we never left breakfast hungry and loved the snacks they sent w us. If the cottage, hiking paths or food wasn’t enough their furry friends topped it off. In short it was a perfect retreat to recharge and spend valuable time w my husband. Thank you for the memories

Hawk Valley was peaceful and beautiful! The room was comfortable and well appointed. The grounds were stunning, with magnificent views and gorgeous flowers everywhere. The breakfasts were mouth watering! We ate way too much but enjoyed every bite! Jim and John made us feel very welcome and gave us amazing service and delicious treats at every turn.

We were looking for a special place to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. We found it at Hawk Valley. When we checked in a bottle of wine and a charcuterie tray were waiting for us at the Somerset Cottage. We absolutely loved the grounds—the lovely flower gardens with lots of gnomes, the trails, the pond (with dragonflies), the goats kicking and playing and the 2,000 pine trees. Breakfasts were a highlight. Fresh eggs from their chickens, fresh baked scones and cinnamon rolls, herbs from their garden, honey from their hives, French toast from home baked bread. Jim and John love this place, and it shows. The Somerset Cottage was spotless and the bed comfy. The surrounding valley is like a Grant Wood painting. We found Hawk Valley to be the perfect place to relax and unwind.

I cannot begin to tell you how amazing this place is. If you're looking for a quiet getaway, beautiful scenery, amazing breakfast.. Look no further! The rooms and cabins are comfortable, clean and cozy. The service by the innkeepers is topnotch. Ten minute drive to Galena Vineyard and fifteen minutes to downtown Galena. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed! Also if you're looking to have a small wedding or elope, this is the place. My husband and I make a point to go once a year at least to unwind and reset our batteries.
