The Ibis Styles is probably the best hotel in Grudziadz, which doesn't have many good hotel options. Coming from the United States, I was unfamiliar with the Ibis Styles brand. It was my first stay with the brand. Basically, it is a combination of a limited-service brand with elements of a full-service brand. So you are getting a little more than a Holiday Inn Express, but not quite the range of amenities and services that come with a full-service four-star or five-star hotel. The location is off a main road next to a sports park and near stores, including a big branded grocery store. Grudziadz's Old Town is 10 minutes away by foot. The hotel itself is four or five years old. It still looks and feels mostly new. The staff were young, polite and hospitable. English was spoken and ranged from conversational to semi-fluent. The decor of the room was modern. The room itself was comfortable and reasonably well-appointed. However, for a newer chain hotel, there were still issues: 1) Instead of one king or one queen bed, my bed was actually two twin-sized mattresses pushed together to form one sleeping surface. That's just unacceptable in the year 2023. 2) There were no USB outlets anywhere in the room. 3) The room didn't have a refrigerator, coffeemaker or kettle. 4) Lighting in the hallways leading to guest rooms is controlled by motion-activated sensors. While I am sure this was implemented to save the hotel owner money, it does not reliably work. Most of the time when walking in the hallway, the lights did not activate causing the hallway to remain dark. 5) No soap of any kind was provided in the bathroom of my room. Instead, there was a single dispenser with a combined hair, body and face wash liquid substance. No other toiletries were provided either. 6) Cleanliness could be improved. There were visible pieces of hair on one of the pillows, likely from the decorative pillows that are placed on the bed (the decorative pillows are almost certainly never washed). In the bathroom, there was also hair under the toilet seat and on the floor. 7) No gym. For such a new hotel with a bar, restaurant, and even conference facilities, there should be a gym. You expect at least a treadmill. If the hotel can have a bar and restaurant or a shoe shine machine in the lobby of the hotel, it can have a small gym. I ate both dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The food at dinner was better than expected with very fair prices. At breakfast, the free buffet was extensive with cold salads, cheeses, meat, bread, pastries, eggs, cereals, juice, etc. The only bad part was the coffee. There was one small espresso machine, which caused customers to wait in line for a small cup. That's unacceptable. For breakfast, they should have filtered coffee. All things considered, I would consider staying at the hotel if I returned to Grudziadz. However, I would have to bring my own soap since the hotel doesn't provide any soap.
