Avondrood Guest House by the Oyster Collection

Stayed for two nights what an absolute delight room was beautiful large bed lounge room bath shower air-conditioning breakfast was great as well fruits cereals to a full breakfast the staff especially were wonderful, especially Jamie and Karlof who is a wealth of information and local history karlof cooked us a bbq on our second night with salad and a dessert. It was amazing. Well done to you would definitely stay again.

Karloff and the crew at Avondrood were exceptional. From our introductory tour to our last minute accommodation with the clothes dryer and boxed breakfasts, nothing was too much for him to handle. The place itself oozes with charm. We loved this guest house and the town itself. Thank you!

 Just returned from our second visit to Avondrood. Our first visit a few year ago was short but so lovely that we decided on a longer stay this second visit and it did not disappoint. The location is great, turn one way and you can walk up the main road to the village shops and cafes, turn the other and 5 min walk to the wine tram station . We stayed in the Mountain View room which was roomy and comfy but All the rooms are beautifully decorated and the main lounge and breakfast area have a homely comfy feel. One stand out point for this guest house is the staff. Justin and his team Karloff, Jamielee, Juvile were so friendly and knowledgeable about the area always offering advice and tips on places to see . Also big shout out to the lady in the kitchen who cooked such lovely food (sorry didn’t get her name ) This is one place we will definitely revisit if we are ever fortunate enough to return to South Africa .

Home. That’s where you are, or made to feel, when you visit the Avondrood. From the moment you’re greeted with a “welcome home” you really get that feeling of family at this stunning guesthouse. If you’re looking for a luxurious stay in the valley with a charming old-world meets modern day character, then this is the place for you. The rooms are just stunning with a tranquil pool area just outside each one. The courtyard provides the perfect place to enjoy a coffee in the morning or a gin & tonic in the day whilst taking in the peaceful ambiance of this place. When you’re ready to explore Franschhoek there’s bicycles on offer for you to take on a ride through the village and surrounding vineyards. Or it’s just a short 2 minute walk and you’re right in the heart of the village For us it was primarily the people that run this place that made our stay what it was. The whole team has fantastic knowledge of the area & encourages you to relax, enjoy & explore during your visit. Nothing is too much of an ask either with the excellent service that’s offered during all hours of the day. My Husband was especially a fan of the delicious offerings during breakfast. This stay, although short, really made our honeymoon & we wish we had more time to enjoy this gorgeous place. We’d highly recommend the Avondrood to anyone visiting franschhoek.

We were on a fleeting trip to Franschhoek as part of a wider tout of South Africa, and were delighted to stay at this fantastic hotel. It was like an oasis in the middle of our trip. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful with vineyard destination recommendations. The breakfast was superb, and they went the extra mile to start breakfast early for our early departure. Couldn’t have been more accommodating.

Though (other than Justin) the staff have changed since our last visit, the attention to customer service remains absolute. Our Deluxe room was hugely spacious with a lovely bathroom, but the best part was a massive and very comfortable bed. Things it might be useful to know: - worth asking the staff about any events happening locally. They will arrange tickets (if possible), transfers etc. - Saturday market is now worth a visit with live music and a great vibe - the Friday night market at Boschenal is great fun (requires a ticket). - the Groot terminal wine tram is probably better than the local routes. - lots of restaurants within walking distance, we really enjoyed Tuk Tuk for relaxed fun and French Connection for more restaurant fare. Most restaurants are card only btw. - for a higher end meal we enjoyed Mont Rochelle who provide a free shuttle back to The Avondrood. - sadly load shedding returned on our last few days - extensive power points in the room including uk plugs - water and a toffee provided every day … nice touch … - oh and the hairdryer is great! We love this special Guest House and hope to return very soon.
