Fergus Club Carema Splash

As soon as you turn up at reception to check in you realise quickly that you’re not in a 4 Star Hotel. It’s very old and looking tired. The check in process is very slow. We were given a room in the garden section. The room is very dated and tired and smells of sewage. The worst bit was when we sat on the bed it only had 3 legs!! Reported to reception and received no apology and they said somebody will fix asap. 6 hours later I went back to say it had not been fixed and they then replaced it. There’s no bottled water in your room and none given out at the hotel. You have to go to the very overpriced supermarket next door to buy some. We found the food to be average, Very repetitive and bland. But we were only here for 4 nights so we tolerated it. It’s self service for drinks in the restaurant and we found some of the machines not working. We didn’t experience any issues with lack of cutlery or plates etc. On our first day there was an incident in the splash pool area where somebody had a serious accident. So it’s now shut and was shut the whole time we were there. The swimming pools are freezing cold and poorly maintained with several people cutting their feet and kids slipping all over the place as it’s very slippy due to lack of cleaning. The lifeguards insist on having no inflatables or balls in the pool which is just stupid. We could get a sunbed anytime of the day. The entertainment was very good and mostly for kids and the entertainment team do a great job. Overall we were very disappointed with the hotel, it’s very tired, dirty and poorly maintained. It badly needs a refurbishment. The sewage smell in the rooms and around the hotel are unbearable at times. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We read the reviews prior to coming and unfortunately they are all correct. We still had a good holiday once we lowered our standards and accepted it. We tried to change hotel before we came due to all the bad reviews but EasyJet Holidays refused.

Hotel was nice agree with other reviews, probably more of a 3 star than a 4. Our room was an apartment so that was quite nice having a fridge for milk. Nice view from the room a few mins walk up the hill from the main hotel building. Was still nice and probably good because it was nice and quiet at night. Staff were all very nice, Goofy child's entertainer was amazing, so good with the kids. We probably came a few days too early for the season. There isn't really anything other than the hotel in the area. The food was nice but could probably have done with more choice. Beach right near the hotel but wasn't really one you could sit and play on all day. With kids you could probably spend all day at the hotel if the weather is nice. There is a splash pool which our little boy loved and there's also a kids club.

We had a great holiday but I wouldn’t go back to this hotel again as there were a huge amount of issues. To start with the all inclusive was ok, but it got worse and worse and resulted in food poisoning for a number of guests due to poorly cooked meat. We experienced dirty plates, cutlery and glasses in the restaurant and the Al a cart restaurant was a joke. It was basically the same food but served to the table. All food was cold although there was a large selection a lot of things ran out and I spent most days running around trying to find staff to ask for things like butter, ketchup and even plates! We spent a number of lunches and dinner times eating out a huge expense as I simply didn’t dare eat the food for the last 3 days. The water was unsinkable and the bar cups were dirty and we witnessed the staff clean them with nothing more than bare hands and water. Rubbing is fingers round the rims of cups. The pool was dangerously under the water as tiles were broken and missing. The area smelt and sun beds were broken. The jet2 staff were all inundated with complaints. The sofa bed was unbearable and the hot water always ran out. The beach wasn’t great but acceptable as this did not belong to the hotel as I understood. The season had not started I understand but shops were closed and we were left without drinking water most days with two young children. The entertainment staff were the one saving grace and the kids club, but everting else was a bit of a joke.

Definitely would not recommend this hotel as needs alot of improvements. Pros: very near beaches, one is literally on its doorstep and a bigger one somewhere steps over the rocks. Nice clear water and not too busy. Goofy from the annimimation team was lovely and friendly and polite to everyone he came across. Cons: no where near anything, the supermarket they advertise is closed so now where to get snacks or bottles water. Nearest shops we had to walk 40 minutes to get too. The hot water is limited! This is not listed anywhere and your not told when checking in, we only found out as after one shower there was no hot water. We came as a family if four and could only have a 5 minute shower each, so no relaxed showers you have to rush. Can't have a bath as not enough water and no plugs either. I've never had this ever in a hotel, my children like to sit in the shower and relax and be in ages and they haven't been able too. The food. Always cold and bland, often not refilled and empty trays are left sitting. The show cooking, is not show cooking at all it's basically just a chef cooking eggs or chicken that's it. The plates are often dirty and the glasses are all filthy with marks all over. These all run out and you have to search or on many occasions we drank coke etc out of a coffee cup. All the glasses are tiny so you only get a small drink aswell. The dishes have been very very basic and at one point the lasagne was vegetable spring rolls (from snack time) with red sauce tipped on top. The pool area is ok, the artificial grass is flat and most likely filthy as it smells when you walk along. Not much sitting area for amount of guests. The splash pool my daughter did love when she had a friend to play with but it was cold so couldn't play for very long. The rooms are very dated and not fit for a family of four. The sofa bed was closed up when we arrive and when we asked reception who clearly couldn't care less they just said open it up the stuff is on it. We did this however there was only a very thin sheet so we had to ask for pillows and a blanket which took two attempts to arrive hours and hours later The rooms with the bed pulled out is tiny we had to move furniture around as couldn't even my get round. The balcony door shuts but if you were to push it pull it it would just break open so not secure or safe. The water from the machines tastes bad it doesn't taste fresh but there is no bottled water available which we have had at other hotels. When speaking to reception about the sofa bed and the room, I explained that the bed was very thin and uncomfortable and my son was very uncomfortable on it. The lady just replied well no one else has a problem! Very rude and not acceptable really I was upset and crying as have spent a lot of money on the holiday to find the room be not as advertised and she just could care less no customer service at all The hotel clearly wasn't set up or ready for the amount of guests they have accepted

Sadly this hotel was not ready to receive guests. On arrival I requested the sofa bed to be made up. 4 times back to reception before being handed a sheet to make myself. No blankets or covers and was very cold at night. Food - cold/ always running out / no butter for 3 days. Wine out of a machine. Shortage of cups glasses and plates. Have eaten out a number of times. The upgrade to the Italian a la carte was a farce. Given a menu to pre order (5 choices). Bolognaise arrived with no meat. Frozen tiramisu Waiter Benito was great and very apologetic. Some meals did not arrive. Location - nothing open nearby, no supermarkets or restaurants apart from a pizzeria. Difficult to get taxis. Sun loungers dirty and a lot broken. Location is pretty overlooking the sea. Feel for the staff who are working hard as no managers present to deal with all the complaints.

Every day there were either no plates cups or glasses; Food wasn’t replenished very often so lots of empty trays. unless you wanted salad which was always available but hardly any tongs, so lots of cross contamination. Managed to get some chilli one night but cold but they do provide a microwave so managed to heat food up! No waiter service for drinks which you d expect in a 4 star hotel so always a queue for a drink that’s if you were lucky to find a glass! One night by 8pm no wine in restaurant. The waiter said it was finished for the night.. no butter for 3 days and always a huge queue to get some jam for toast. Both in the day time and evening one bar attendant on the bar who worked hard but quite often a 15 minute wait for drinks even water. No supermarket open within a 20 minute walk even though it was advertised. Reception staff said they had quite a few complaints and were trying to make things better but didn’t notice any change. Entertainment staff were friendly and worked hard. My son and his friend both cut their toes from the pool and noticed a few others getting plasters off the lifeguard. I tried to explain to him but he didn’t understand English so I advised reception staff. Hopefully this will get sorted. Yesterday at 6pm no bar open to get even a drink of water there were queues of people waiting. It finally opened at 6.20pm with an apology from a member of staff. Volleyball court full of weeds beach bar it not on beach just an extension from the restaurant which was not manned. Huge improvements need to be made.
