Embudu Village Resort

Embudu Village, what an absolute gem of an island…. We stayed for 10 nights from 9th May, the island is beautiful with crystal clear waters, white sands, lush trees with vibrant birds, lizards, bats, then underwater, quite possibly, the most beautiful reef I have ever seen. The experience of snorkelling with Octopus, Eagle Rays, Nurse Sharks, Stingrays, Reef Sharks, Turtles and about a million fish, in the stunning coral setting was simply breathtaking and I feel very privileged that they shared their home with me for so much of my time there. The food was varied and plenty of it, as were the drinks. Our beach bungalow was spacious & comfortable. The Diverland guys are great, highly recommend Stingray City. The back massage at Serena Spa was incredibly relaxing. For us the staff at the bar made our trip even more magical as did our waiter… A perfect place to have shared our 25 years together ❤️

We stayed in mid June 2025. It's a family trip of 4. The 3 night stay was absolutely fantastic. All three meals were Buffet with a wide spread from starters, to mains to a variety of deserts. The food was fantastic with a mixed variety ranging from different continents. Kudos to Chef Malin and his team. We stayed in a Water Villa with a glass bottom. The rooms, the beaches and the full island is clean and well maintained. Great place snorkeling with a nice beach. The front office manager Mr Rasheed was very helpful and the staff is courteous and helpful. A big thanks goes to Mr Ramsey Perera for making our stay a memorable one.

Firstly Embudu Village was Paradise, with crystal clear water, fluffy white sands with abundance of sea life to see. There are plenty of trips if you want too, including snorkelling, diving, fishing, trips to Male. There is a spa for all kinds of beauty treatments. A library if you want to read. Canoes or water boards to hire. We were lucky enough to stay in a Water Bungalow, with a four poster bed, jacuzzi bath and shower. A glass boʻttom floor in the sitting area where you could watch the fish and a decking area with cozy sunbed and armchairs. We also stayed in a beach bungalow that literally stepped out to the beach, with sun loungers and umbrellas. The superior bungalow had a big bed, a walk in shower and was big and spacious with ample wardrobe space. The Restaurant was excellent with different foods from all over the world that the chefs stood and cooked main dishes infront of you. From breakfast, lunch to dinner there was a wide variety everyday! This is where we want to personally thank Kamal Dangriyal for making our holiday that extra special! He pulled my chair out evertine I arrived! He advised us on what foods to try, poured our drinks. Gave us tips on everything we needed to know or ask regarding our stay. Nothing was a problem and he genuinely made us feel at home and looked after. He was kind, friendly and professional in his job. He is a big asset to Embudu Village. The bar staff were also amazing and always happy to see or help you. Will definitely be going back to this beautiful island.

We had our honeymoon at Embudu Village, and the trip was magical. The island is beautiful and well kept, and the surrounding water and marine life were amazing. I would highly recommend the snorkeling, and the stingray and shark diving trips. The service was outstanding throughout. Our waiters Ravi, Santosh, and Thasleem were excellent, and the service was impeccable. All in all, we cannot recommend this resort enough, and definitely hope to go back!

Had two wonderful weeks at this lovely resort. Staff were excellent and very attentive esp Jabir who cleaned our room daily and Santosh at the bar and Abdullah in the restaurant. Snorkelling was excellent (mind afternoon currents), food was good and lots of variety, especially desserts and very peaceful even though quite near to other resorts and capital. My only complaint was the mattress was very hard and there wasn’t enough sun loungers, otherwise no complaints. Happy to return someday.

I returned to Embudu after 20 years with high hopes, only to be met with deep disappointment. What struck me most were the extensive land reclamation and construction works for new artificial islands surrounding Embudu. Two decades ago, these islands didn’t exist, and Embudu was a truly magical diving destination. It appears that the creation of these new landmasses has altered the ocean currents significantly. As a result, coral life around Embudu has suffered dramatically. Vibrant coral reefs—once the heart of diving here—are now almost completely absent. Marine biodiversity has dwindled to a fraction of what it once was. The dive center itself is still exactly as I remember it from 20 years ago. Sadly, that is not a compliment. No meaningful updates, no noticeable improvements—just stagnation. The entire diving experience and even the island’s atmosphere no longer feel special. It’s a real shame to witness such a decline in what used to be a paradise for divers.
