Melrose Guest House

Enjoyed my stay here. Found host very accommodating, on a cycle trip and kept my cycle inside and secure. Single room was small, but expected that. Spotlessly clean and had been newly refurbished So felt new Shared shower room good Cereal and full English was more than enough to start the day. Location not far from shops and Centre, but up a short sleep walk from prom. 5 min walk to manx museum. Satisfied my needs as a base to cycle and explore IOM.

there was no heating, and on one of the worst Junes I've known, the house was freezing. As the owner didn't live on site the door was left open. The TV lounge was locked and was being used as a storeroom. so it was impossible for my party of 4 to sit together as the bedrooms had 1 chair only and that was squeezed in. The onsuite was so small I couldn't bend to wash my feet in the shower and had to go sideways past the sink to use the lavatory. As we walked in past the tables and chairs at the front of the house, we should have known then with all the miss-matched furniture something was amiss, the owner is trying to run a business while doing renovations I believe, finally on the last day of our stay he supplied fan heaters for the rooms. as for the area, a local told me it was the worst in douglas and she thought all the guest houses had shut down there

Stayed three nights at the Melrose. Friendly and accommodating owner who gave us helpful tips on places to visit. Comfortable room. Freshly cooked breakfast. Good WI-FI. Convenient location. Very good VFM for price paid.

4 night stay durind the southern 100 you pay for what you get dont complain if you want a 5 star spa hotel pay the money peter is a sound host cooks a cracking full english rooms are cleaned dailey yes its an old victorian hotel the same as most in douglas it is what it is see you next year
