Online reviews of Concordia Eco-Resort vary wildly, which I attribute to the expectations of guests prior to their stay. In this review, I’m going to try to share what I found, rather than whether I liked it. I stayed in April, 2025 (during a school vacation week), and paid about $1,000 for five nights to stay in a “premium ocean front cabana.” To begin with, it is my understanding that the resort has gone through at least five owners and two serious hurricanes in the past two decades. The result is a bit of a hodgepodge, both in terms of type and condition of accommodations, and amenities. I would urge anyone interested in staying at Concordia but doubtful about the choice to contact them and request detailed interior pictures of the specific unit where they would be staying, as well as a full list of its contents, as the buildings and their contents do vary from unit to unit. Location: This hotel is almost as far as you can get away from civilization while still on St. John. The setting is spectacular, on a hill overlooking the mouth of Coral Bay to the east, and Saltpond Bay to the west. There are few neighbors, and the hotel overlooks a section of national parkland. It is a private and quiet location. As the hotel sprawls across a steep hill, units are accessed through both a lower and upper access road, a raised causeway between the two, and many, many stairs. From the upper access road to the causeway is about 100 steps. From the lower access road to the causeway is about 50 steps. Some units may be directly accessible from the upper or lower access road. Amenities: There is a pool and deck, kayak rental (although guests must transport the kayaks to the water, which is some distance), snorkel rental, and free ice and filtered water available to guests. Construction and layout of the unit: There are a variety of units. The unit in which I stayed (E9) was built of pressure-treated lumber, plywood, and plastic canvas on stilts. E9 was access from the main causeway by about 15 steps and a short rear deck leading to a plywood door. E9 was built rather like a garage, with one wall almost completely open to a deck. Windows are similar to those in a camper trailer, with plastic canvas zipped over screen material. The roof appears to be some kind of plastic membrane. E9 had a leak in the roof when I stayed there. The toilet and shower are in a nook with no door. The kitchen area is in one corner of the unit. The deck is sublime. Equipment included in unit: The contents of each unit vary, and I understand the hotel may be changing its policies on what equipment is provided, but here’s a rough list of what I found in my unit (E9) in addition to the bed: four tables built of pressure-treated lumber; one folding chair; three plastic Adirondack chairs; a large plastic storage tub; a plastic floor mat that covered an area under and around the bed; a functional mosquito net; four pillows; sheets and a blanket; two bath towels, two hand towels, tw

WOW! This place is amazing and a true island experience. We had a treehouse, and felt like we were sleeping on top of the sea! Ms. Claudia is the best! If you are looking for a laid back, nature experience there is no where better else to stay on the island! I miss waking up to the sound of the ocean, breeze, and breathing that fresh air! You are close to Salt Pond Bay, and convenient to Coral Bay to run in for essentials, etc.

RATS in the rooms. The lodge describes itself fairly well but leaves out many things you really should know about. Yes, there are rats in the rooms. The lodge has no generator so during power outages, no do not have lighting...or water...use your phone flashlight until it dies. Beds are not described accurately, no queen bed in our room. Manager can seem very sweet, until you need something and then she will glare, scowl and berate you....frequently. Restaurant is overpriced and does not match with the clientele they are serving to. Service at the restaurant is almost non existent. The price of staying here should be equivalent to a hostel or campground with cabins at around $50-$75.00 a night. Grounds have many safety issues. Positive? This is one of the very best beaches on St Johns, just DO NOT plan to spend the night.

We will give them 1 star for the location. First, before you decide to make a reservation, have them send you pictures of the actual accommodations where you will be staying. The pictures they show when you make reservations, are certainly not what you will be getting when you arrive. The cabana shown, when we reserved a Premium Ocean Front Cabana, was certainly not the Cabana we were given when we arrived. We asked Claudia why the Cabana shown on the reservation page was not the Cabana we were assigned she said “I’ve never been on our website.” We asked why the only netting shown over the beds was in the picture showing a Villa, and she said that couldn’t be, since the villas were air conditioned and had 4 walls. We then showed her the pictures from Concordia’s website, and she said “Oh, those must have been pictures taken of model set ups.” We were told there were no other Cabanas available, and no Villas. We could switch to a tree house unit, with a smaller, thinner mattress. We decided the bed in the cabana would be better than one in the treehouse. The Cabana in the picture on the reservation page shows a Cabana with finished walls, floor, and ceilings. Our Cabana was unfinished, with pressure treated plywood on the floor and pressure treated 4 x 4 posts. Even the shelves where the dishes you would be expected to eat off of, and the towels they want you to dry off after a shower, were placed. When we arrived, there was rodent poop on the floor, we thought it was mouse poop, but after seeing a rat on night 2, we decided it was most likely rat poop. We have pictures showing the poop next to the kitchen sink and on the bathroom floor. The sponge provided to do dishes was filthy, and obviously should have been thrown out. There was no dish tub to wash dishes in (since there is only one sink, for washing hands and dishes, you would think they would give you a dish tub) and no dish drainer or dish towel. We ended up buying paper plates and plastic utensils. Not sure how they expect to wash any surfaces in the cabana, since they are all pressure treated wood… The first night the shower did not work. We saw a worker in the morning who did not speak English, but we were able to get him to understand our shower was not working. When we returned after enjoying some of the hikes and beaches on St John, the shower worked. We knew it was a “solar shower,” but we expected it to at least have enough pressure to rinse the soap of our bodies and shampoo out of our hair, which it didn’t. We’ve used solar showers before, with rain water storage, and they were much better than what was provided in our “Cabana.” The second night is when a rat scurried up the bathroom wall, over the “kitchenette” shelves and out a hole in the ceiling. The third night there was a downpour and water came in a hole in the ceiling right over our refrigerator. We actually left a day early, even though we had our rental car for another day. We ended up taking the ferry to St Th

My partner and I traveled to St. John/St. Thomas this past January for almost a week. We were very excited about staying at the Concordia Eco Resort - we had been in communication with staff (via email and talking/texting over the phone) prior to arrival to understand what we needed to expect and bring with us. There were so many things told to us that ended up not being true: - The space we had booked was not available. We were housed in a different, less furnished and smaller, cabana than we paid for. - The potable water source near the restaurant was not actually available. - The restaurant - advertised as open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - was rarely open. - Wellness programming - advertised as available every day in some capacity - was never offered. - "A 10-minute walk to the beach" is actually a 35-minute hike. - Kitchens in the unit include a mini fridge and hot plate, totally fine. We were unable to prepare our own foods. however, since we were not supplied with cooking instruments beyond plastic eating cutlery. - We were told the shower water supply might have been contaminated with sewage, something we could have planned for had it been communicated to us prior to our arrival. - Ocean gear - beach chairs, snorkels/masks, paddle boards - is not always available as advertised. Additionally, there is an exorbitant charge for each item, something not communicated to us until we received a bill weeks later. There were more incidents than this. Each item was addressed with the front desk staff (in the rare occurrence we could get a hold of them) and we were met with indifference. Absolutely no customer service. We were very much looking forward to unplugging and enjoying time on the quiet side of the St. John island. We are accustomed to camping and roughing it while vacationing in nature. This experience, however, was unacceptable.

Beware. The villas are not all the same. Last year we stayed in A16. it looked like the website picture. This year we stayed in A25. It was in poor condition. The blinds were busted on both sides of the main room. The sofa bed was stained. The kitchen was poorly furnished. The windows were dirty. It looked like a Motel 6 that had been through bankruptcy. Efforts to address those issues with management, including possibly moving to a different unit of which there appeared to be several, were received with a lack of enthusiasm. We stayed put and made do.

I lead a yoga retreat at Concordia Feb 2025. My experience as a leader was excellent. The staff was very helpful with anything I needed to help make retreat the best possible. The food was clean, simple and delicious. Just what yoga people wanted. Our accommodations were lovely. Many steps to get to the cabins but worth the view when you got there. The yoga pavillion looked over the ocean and there was a constant breeze. Perfect for a yoga practice any time of the day. The pool was lovely and the beach which was a little hike from the cabin never disappointed. We probably had our beast day snorkeling of the whole week at Salt Bay. We saw turtles, a school of squid, octopus...just to name a few.

Been here several other times, love their little cabins suspended above Salt Pond Bay. Our place was basic and tidy, cooked dinner over hot plate with provisions from local market. New restaurant on the premises is nice and very convenient, Staff is friendly and helpful. No frills, a step above camping with electricity and flush toilets, office and restaurant have decent wifi.

Unplug and totally immerse yourself into stunning and rejuvenating NATURE! Cell reception and WiFi are VERY limited. (This is Eco-Camping at the “end of the Earth”)! I’ve been coming here for 25 years. This IS Eco-camping. This IS NOT a fancy, pretentious resort. There’s no daily room service. Your hut is yours for the week. Stay in Cruz Bay if you want WiFi, cell reception, fanciness and pretense. Know what you’re coming to. People, this is the most remote area on St John. I highly recommend a Jeep, particularly if you want to go to some of the most remote beaches on this end of St John. Buy your groceries in Cruz Bay or Coral Bay. There is a lovely restaurant here, Concordia Cafe. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days/week. There is also a pool here. Ram Head and Salt Pond Bay are a 20 minute hike or a 5 minute drive. Gotta go now…..Back to the sound of the surf, expansive views of Nature and the sound of the Ocean, the tree frogs and the wind in the trees! I’ll return AGAIN next year!
