Gran Tacande Wellness & Relax Costa Adeje

Great location if you wish to have a more quiet getaway on an otherwise busy Tenerife. Pool is excellent and a 2 min walk from 2 beaches.

My family and I have just returned from a 10 night stay in July – and wow – what a hotel! It was amazing. Last year we stayed at the GF Victoria, which I didn’t think could be beaten (but was prohibitively expensive this year), but the Gran Tacande was just breathtaking and offered excellent value for money. I always try to write fair and honest reviews, and there were a few issues and things I didn’t like, but on the whole we had a fantastic stay. When you enter the hotel, the lobby is spectacular the hotel’s large public areas take your breath away. The hotel smells divine – like The White Company/Jo Malone – and it is very plush and decadent with incredible décor and grand furniture. I loved it at first sight and we received a lovely warm welcome from the reception staff, who were all excellent and extremely helpful for the duration of our stay and are a real credit to the hotel. Our room wasn’t quite ready, but it wasn’t check in time, so we popped for lunch and then they rang as soon as the room was ready. My husband booked a suite (444) for us, so my son could have his own living/sleeping space, and at first I was quite disappointed with the room, but it did grown on me. It was very spacious and spotlessly clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable (although our son’s sofa bed was very hard and uncomfortable). There was a nice balcony with a chaise longue, and you could just about see the sea – but there was also a lovely view over the hotel’s facilities. There were 2 parts – the living area (where our son slept), with his sofabed, fridge, dining table and chairs and a sideboard. Then there was the main room with a large bed, safe, shelving, dressing table, 2 chairs and also a double sink. There was also a whirlpool bath close to the bed. I HATED this. There was no divider or screen, so there was absolutely no privacy whatsoever, and I am body conscious, so this was my worst nightmare, and put me off using it! The shower cubicle was very small and the shower was overly complicated, with jets coming from one side only and a strange drainage area. I would just have preferred a larger and simpler walk-in shower with a more powerful flow. I also really hated the toilet. There was at least a door, but there was a huge gap at the top and it was just off the main room, so impossible for anyone to go to the loo in the night without waking everyone else up. I think the whole bathroom area needs a rethink. I’m not a prude, but some privacy is very much needed – both in terms of noise and modesty. There was also a lack of hanging space, which wasn’t ideal. We did have a few rooms issues: 1. A plumber came twice to fix a shower problem we didn’t know about! 2. The wi-fi kept cutting out constantly, so they had to to reset the router 3. We opened the fridge to find the previous occupants’ half-drunk wine and half-eaten pizza. This was swiftly removed and a bottle of Cava sent as an apology. 4. The air-con stopped working, but reception fixed this

I have stayed at this hotel on multiple occasions. I didn’t change my holiday date despite the large pool being out of action due to renovations. The stay was not hindered by this. The hotel is very clean and welcoming The food is good and all the staff are friendly, helpful, polite and so many remember you. A few to mention…Jony and Cosmin in the restaurant, Moussa the chef and not forgetting Marisa, who turns down the beds, ( I love our chats ). I look forward to seeing you all every year. You make all the difference to my stay.

We stayed at Gran Tacande Costa Adeje for 10 days in early July and overall had a lovely experience. The hotel is in a fantastic location — close to the beach and restaurants — and the facilities were spotless throughout. The food was good with a wide variety of options, and the staff were mostly friendly, helpful, and welcoming. However, there were a few frustrations that took away from the experience. Most notably, we booked and paid full price only to be informed after booking that the main pool would be closed for maintenance during our entire stay. This wasn’t disclosed at the time of booking, and despite the significant disruption, the hotel did not adjust the price — which felt, with two children, unfair given the reduced offering. Additionally, on one morning I arrived at the San Sebastián Plaza at 10:10am (which officially opens at 10:00am), only for everyone there to be asked to leave by a manager so cleaning could be completed. If an area is advertised as open from 10am, it should be fully ready for use at that time. Another point worth mentioning — we had the Gold package, which includes complimentary soft drinks, coffee, etc., at the San Sebastián Plaza. However, if we wanted to bring the kids to the secondary pool on the ground floor, those benefits didn’t carry over and we had to pay for them. It would make sense for the hotel to offer a Gold package identifier (e.g. wristband or card) that allows access to those same soft drinks etc. in other pool areas — especially for families and people who want to move between different parts of the hotel. In summary, while the hotel has a lot to offer — great location, clean facilities, good food, and generally nice staff — the issue around the pool closure and lack of consistency with package benefits let it down slightly. Would recommend, but with caution: check in advance that key facilities are open. Losing one star due to the issue of charging full price for no use of the main pool.

second visit to the Gran Tacande this year. NEGATIVES 1)The second was affected slightly by the main pool renovations which meant that guests were squeezed onto the upper level with a corresponding reduction of sunbeds. Guests arriving after noon were often disappointed. 2) Choose an ocean side view room which was a total waste of time and money as to see the small ***** of sea, I had to lean over the balcony. A good proportion of the rooms are north or north west facing and receive very little sun even in mid summer. 3) Although the food was excellent, it lacked variety and rotation. Why have a chinese station every night? Much better to have a themed night. 4) Hotel interior lacks natural light and appeared quite gloomy in places 5) Sunset raw rooftop bar needs something to show it's open as you cannot always see people in it. The entrance didn't look used. We only found it on the last evening of our second visit! 6) Too many children 5-10 running about! being branded as wellness and relax, this hotel should be adults only. POSITIVES 1) Food was of excellent quality and cooked perfectly. Chef's were very skilled 2) All hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. 3) Interior or rooms excellent, bed and pillows perfect for me. TV and shower great. I found it had to get out of the bath and slipped a couple of times as it is very low. I am however 66! 4) Location is perfect for exploring the area 5) Poolside very quiet. 6) Once found, the roof top bar is wonderful. 7) Room cleaning was excellent. CONCLUSIONS 1) I would certainly reccommend this hotel to others as it will tick a lot of boxes. If like me, you enjoy sitting on your balcony enjoying the late afternoon sun, you will be disappointed unless you have one of the expensive rooms. 2) The amount of young children would be a slight concern - you don't expect to see children running around the restaurant in a 5 star hotel. It would certainly in my opinion, benefit in moving to adults only 3) Although as mentioned, the food is excellent, there is not the level of variety and choose I have experienced in other 5 star hotels. 4) Overall I would rate the hotel as sitting just under what I would expect of a 5 star hotel, but still offers good value for money.
