We enjoyed our stay at Laguna Lodge, the grounds were beautiful and the gorgeous beach was just a stone's throw away. The room was quite basic, it was very hot and we struggled a bit with just a fan, however the pools, bars and restaurant were very good. The bars served the best Pina Coladas we've ever had! Be prepared for some geckos in your room (they are harmless and they'll help keep the mozzie numbers down!) and possibly a creepy crawly or two. Take a walk around the grounds after dark with a torch (don't forget to top up your mozzie repellent before you do!), you will find loads of toads by the pool, hear frogs in the trees, and if you walk through the butterfly garden you might spot a red eyed tree frog! Being in the rainforest, it is very loud during the night, I would recommend bringing ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. I cannot begin to explain how fantastic the boat tours are, I got up for the 5.30am tour and also the 8.30am tour and had what I would consider to be one of the best days of my life! The amount of birds and animals we saw was unreal, it was such a magical experience. Our boat driver (I can't remember his real name, I want to say Jacan but we all called him Eagle Eyes!) was brilliant, he spotted so much wildlife and was so lovely. Our tour guide during our stay at Laguna Lodge was Sebastian, he was so helpful and was such a great guy!

We loved this place. Accessible by boat through canals, flanked on one side by the river and the Caribbean on the other, surrounded by forest and the most amazing wildlife, we highly recommend. Attentive and helpful staff, delicious meals with great selection, fun excursions, we loved the two pools and the outdoor bar space on the river. Seeing turtles laying eggs at night on the beach with a guide was so special! The breakfast lunch and dinner buffets were yummy with lots of choices.

Our first glimpse of the jungle in Costa Rica was the wonderful boat ride to Laguna Lodge with Sebastien. He was so knowledgable and pointed out so many amazing things on the way. The accommodation is fairly rustic but has all you need, as you don't have much time to spend in the room. We were near one of the two pools and it was always quiet and relaxing. The grounds were amazing, all the flora and fauna were some of the best we saw in Costa Rica. Our morning tour the next day did not disappoint, we were lucky enough to see a sloth make its weekly trip down to the river, see video! The food at the lodge was included and was always wholesome with several choices. It was wonderful to be able to stroll along the Caribbean beach with not a soul around. Fabulous.

The grounds around the hotel were beautiful and there was always something interesting to look at. We saw toucans, oropendulas, hawks and hummingbirds just around the gardens and toads, frogs and a Mexican hairy nosed porcupine at night. There are a lot of guests at the hotel but you are only really aware of this at mealtimes. The rest of the time the gardens, bar and pools were quiet.

We really weren't sure what to expect with this Lodge given that we knew there was no air conditioning and no glass on windows but we were very pleasantly surprised! I was worried about bugs but the hotel is extremely clean and well maintained and we didn't have any unwelcome visitors in our room (but i did keep all food, washbags etc shut away). I also laid a towel at the bottom of the doors but maybe that was just me being paranoid! The hotel itself is really well laid out, great pool area and decent food in restaurant. We were there only 2 nights and the food was better than expected. I would imagine it could get repetitive if staying for longer than 3/4 nights. The tours provided by the hotel were really well organised and informative. We managed to see turtles laying on the beach which was AMAZING! The transfers in and out of the hotel were excellent. Our flight was delayed coming in to San Jose so we actually missed our pick up but with great communication from the hotel we managed to catch it up and meet the rest of the group at the breakfast point to continue the rest of the journey.

Understanding the hotel is in the middle of the jungle where there are no roads, the place is great. it is a little rustic with a simple fan (no air conditioning), no TV and few lights in the room. Wi-Fi works just fine. The location is great for seeing wildlife, right on the main river with the ocean only a few steps to the back of the property. Food was buffet style, all you can eat, and very good. Two very nice pools. Dining room is right on the river so you can watch birds and other animals while eating. It is a short boat ride or a 45 minute walk to the town of Tortuguero.

What an absolutely magical place!! So beautiful. Even the boat trip to reach it was out of this world. Just can't describe it to do it justice. The lodges were perfect for us. Very rustic but immaculately clean and functional. We only had a little gecko visit us one morning. He was very welcome! The whole place was alive with birds and iguanas lounging on branches. We had a toucan in tree outside our lodge. Made our stay!! Food was buffet style but plenty of choice for all tastes. People who go to this resort and then complain about weather and wildlife probably better off staying in Europe!! It's the whole point of going there!! The boat trip with local guide was out of this world. Their eyesight is amazing!! Saw so many animals. Whole list from sloths ,monkeys,caymans,iguanas etc. List is endless. We then experienced tropical rainstorm while out in boat. Best experience!! Loved everything about Laguna beach. Def be back one day and stay longer. Thanks to all for fab,memorable stay.

This is a lovely laid back area. One is welcomed by a welcome drink, the pool and garden area around is great. We had full board, food was tasty and a good selection. The flies love the melon, so there should be a better solution how to cover the melon and fruit in general so that it is not infested by flies. Otherwise the dining area has regular visits by iguanas, the garden is full of Aracari and humming birds, beautiful flora too. We saw a boa snake just behind the resort. We did not visit in during the turtle nesting season, but I can only imagine that that must be so awesome, as even now there were tracks and nests apparent from the turtles. On our tour on the water canal we saw so much fauna, monkeys, toucans, dolphins, iguanas, parrots, many water birds, reptiles of all sorts... The rooms only have nets in the window area, which may bother some ppl, no aircon, but a fan will do a good job. If it rains it is noisy, so if you are a bad sleeper, this may not be for you. But on the other hand, you feel connected to nature at its best here.

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed the wildlife boat tours each day. It is one hour by water taxi from the nearest dock. The food at the restaurant was okay, honestly not much to choose from and very limited dessert items. The hotel rooms are rustic without much room and nowhere to hang up clothes. We saw slothes, iguanas, several types of monkeys, and numerous birds on the canal tours. If you’re looking for high end food and lodging this is not the place, if you’re looking to see wildlife it’s a great choice!
