MY 18 year old Granddaughter was a camp counselor in the Adirondack area of New York and was flying home from the Albany airport. We needed an overnight stay for her in a hotel near the airport. Most hotels require you to be 21 to check in alone. We found the Fairfield Inn & Suites Albany Airport that didn’t appear to have that requirement. I called the hotel, and a very friendly associate told me that it would be fine for her to check in alone and asked for a payment authorization to cover any costs, which I provided. On the day of check-in (8/11/24) she was told by the front desk that she could not check in since she was under 21. At that point she was upset, since she had never before traveled alone, and called me. I spoke to the front desk person who was quite rude and of no help. She contacted the Assistant General Manager who was quite irritated that she had to be talking to a customer on her day off. She said she would contact the General Manager, who was also on her day off, for a decision and get back to me. I never received a call back, but my granddaughter was told that the decision was “no”. My granddaughter was upset as she was 2+ hours from the camp and was being refused check in. I then contacted Hilton and, even though they also had a 21 policy, they made an accommodation and gave her a room. My family and I travel a lot and almost always use Marriott. Have had a lot of great experiences but would never recommend this hotel.
