I wanted to stay in a Trulli and our travel agent selected this hotel. We weren’t disappointed. It’s a very pretty little hotel with a lovely pool and great food. It is VERY quiet here though, which is great if you want to totally chill and relax but you might get a bit bored after a couple of days if you don’t have any trips planned. Agree with the comment that tea/coffee making facilities in the room would be a nice touch as if you are an early riser there is no way to get a drink until the restaurant opens for breakfast at 8am.

The hotel is truly amazing. Staff is excellent as are the rooms and amenities. It is in the middle of no where, which was great for us. You need a car if you stay here. The rooms are well appointed. Rooms and suites are a short walk from the reception and some rooms have steps inside to get to the bathroom, so be sure to check with the reception before you book.

We just checked out. The property is gorgeous but the service is terrible. This is a “5 star” property managed by some of the most inhospitable and unfriendly people in Italy. It is evident the staff all hate their jobs. Breakfast was painfully slow every morning, due to one staff member responsible for all coffee orders and hot dishes for the entire hotel (and she was in a miserable mood every day.) I might have been willing to overlook this, until what I experienced at check-out. Right after paying my (2,000€ !) tab and packing up the car, my wife and I sat down at the pool until our afternoon flight. Unlike every other hotel in the world, apparently this not allowed. The receptionists told us we had to leave immediately since we are no longer guests of the hotel. We tried to discuss this but she did not budge. Not only have I stayed in hundreds of 5-star hotels, I work in hospitality management. Never, ever in my career have I experienced a hotel that won’t let you hang out by the pool after check out if you have a later flight - this costs them nothing (in fact, usually it generates some extra bar revenue), and ensures your guests leave relaxed and happy. Basic hotel management, but I guess a foreign concept at Borgo Canonica. There are dozens of trulli hotels around Puglia. For 450€ a night one should absolutely expect far better service than this. What kind of hotel infuriates guests on their way out the door?

Amazing, though no little extras Staying in a trillo was a highlight of the trip, this place is so well thought out, clean and well maintained. The staff were friendly and there was a very helpful and friendly receptionist who was lovely. The rooms are amazing. The whole place feels like a fairytale. It’s best to think of this as a chill day or two for by the pool and it helped us unwind after matera and travelling. My only disappointment - it was a 30th birthday week for my partner and I had emailed ahead, and mentioned on check in. There was no extras like a note or fizz or at dinner and this was a shame - mainly because we were spoilt in matera with a bottle of fizz and a glass sent by the hotel at dinner. There are also no standard things like free jugs or bottles of water in the room (you can buy only) and again no welcome gift / fruit or token small bottle as you would expect and generally find from this price range, This probably needs looking at and would make the stay even better.
