Sugar Apple Bed and Breakfast

We were previous customers of the owners hotels on the island and thoroughly enjoyed our previous visit. We booked a 12 nights stay in late March early April but had to cancel at the last minute due to a medical emergency. The owners are still charging us for the full 12 days even though we were unable to fly to the island and feel this is very unreasonable. Be careful when booking

I absolutely love this little hidden gem of STX. You’re in walking distance of restaurants, the beach, shopping, and nightlife. The rooms are extremely cute, the breakfast is perfect, and it’s so peaceful and quiet. Natalie is the manager and she is perfect. She is kind, helpful, sweet, and had so many recommendations. Everything she has told us has been spot on. You won’t be disappointed staying here.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 days. Overall, it was a very nice little hotel. The only problem is the street in front of the hotel and around the area were in very bad condition. dirt and noise, big pothole are all over when cars drove by. It is not pleasure to walk around. It could take months for the city to repair these roads.

This was one of the best places to stay after adventuring around Christiansted. We did not rent a car and it was walking distance to many restaurants and fun activities! Our favorite places to go for food were Hamiltons, Too Chez, and best of all Lucheria! We were walking distance to many activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, sea plane, sport fishing, and ferry to the Cay. Natalie made amazing continental breakfasts every morning with fresh pastries. The grounds of the property were nothing like we expected. This truly is a cultural hideaway and a hidden gem :) If we vacation here again we would definitely consider staying here again.

My stay at the Sugar Apple was lovely! This was my second time in St. Croix and first time staying in Christiansted. I wanted to find a cute, safe spot for a few days of solo travel and this is where I landed. It’s a couple blocks away from the boardwalk and shops but tucked back enough where it’s peaceful and quiet. The management and caretakers were wonderful. I got a text the morning of my arrival with all the info I needed for self check-in. I didn’t need anything from them while I was there so my interaction was minimal but everyone I saw was incredibly friendly! The property is gated with smart locks so you need a code to get in either gate and then just a code to get into your room. Very smart and convenient to not have to remember/not lose a key while on vacation! I stayed in room 3 with two beds. There is a desk, dresser, TV, sink, mini fridge, microwave, kettle, open closet, nice bathroom with walk-in shower, and a ceiling fan. The beds were a little squeaky but not terrible. There were many pillows which was great as I like variety and to stack my pillows when I sleep. The AC unit was a little noisy but it worked perfectly so this is not a complaint, just an observation. I usually sleep with white noise and this did the trick. I only went to the continental breakfast on my last morning and it was pleasant. Some pastries, a couple bread options you could toast, vegan cream cheese and butter, jam, fruit and I think oatmeal. Breakfast is set out by the pool so it’s just a nice spot to start the day. The pool was great. It was clean, a perfect temperature, and just nice to relax after a long day at the beach. I spent an evening on a lounge chair just enjoying the weather and night sky. My favorite part was the tortoise garden. I spent at least 30 minutes there on my last day just wandering around, talking to the turtles, and enjoying the lush oasis-like feeling of the garden. It’s a secret tropical getaway and I could have spent all 3 days there with those turtles. Notes on the trip to the island- not a commentary on the Sugar Apple, I just wanted to include this. As a solo female traveler, I learned after night one that it’s best to be back at the B&B before dark (and that’s about 7 pm in July). Definitely important to pay attention to your surroundings and find the best ways to get around and feel safe. I also wish I would have rented a car because finding taxis was a challenge and ended up being pretty expensive. I was scared to drive on the left side of the road but will be up for the challenge next time!

My rating is more for location than the B&B. We were there this pace mon-thurs, May 9th thru the 12th. You can walk to the Christiansted boardwalk from here, and within 5 minutes you're at the restaurants and shops of downtown. The place itself is nice overall, rooms are decent size and clean. Free wi-fi, street parking, and some basic tv options. Only thing I was missing on arrival was wash cloths. I've never stayed at a B&B before, but when you think of a place serving breakfast that's what I expected. Instead, it was more like a basic continental breakfast from a small hotel. We were in the front rooms facing the street, so that means you hear roosters and cars all the time. The walk from here to the boardwalk is a bit sketchy especially at night, as it's several abandoned buildings down the street. Not to mention the water smells horrible right before you hit the boardwalk. Would stay somewhere directly behind the boardwalk next time just to avoid that funky smell. The place is good overall, best thing is the location. Roosters are everywhere on the island so there is no getting away from that part. Also do not expect hotel standards like daily room cleaning and fresh towels.

I only booked the week before traveling and was unfamiliar with the island and spent three days deciding where to book. I wanted to be in town so could walk to shops and restaurants. This was perfect location and perfect bed and breakfast. Breakfast was convenient and was bagels, apples or bananas, OJ, coffee, tea, toast, oatmeal packets, etc. Natalie the manager is very knowledgeable about activities and helpful with suggestions. Room was plenty large and clean abs with AC! Would definitely come back!

The B&B is very well situated. Walking distance to everything in Christiansted (it’s not a big town). Parking is street parking right out front but it was never an issue to get a spot. Natalie had a yummy vegan breakfast (bagels, home baked muffins, oatmeal, coffee, tea, fruit). Be prepared to hear roosters crowing all day long, although that’s true all over the island. The only reason this isn’t five star is that our bathtub did not drain well.

Beautiful grounds. Clean spacious rooms. Walking distance to the Boardwalk and all the restaurants. Perfect location. Natalie the Inn representative is fabulous. Very safe. Breakfast was healthy and fresh. Pool area was clean, private and had plenty of tables for evening cards and games. The island rooster WILL wake you up!
