Holiday Inn Express & Suites Christiansburg

Please understand this hotel is still under renovations and not every room is fully done. They were working on the first floor roomsm The elevator is slow, no business center, no pets allowed, ice machine is only on the 1st floor next to the elevators. The rooms were great, quiet with walk in showers. Only odd part is they had come type of cloth in our room over the window because blinds were not installed yet. The breakhast was great with hot food. No juice machine. Had kids juice boxes. I think because of the renovations, the rate was cheaper. Had a laundry room on the 2nd floor.

This hotel was under a renovation and gave us a room that wasn't complete. It was freezing cold when we stayed and the heat wasn't on and the room was freezing. There was a plastic sheet over the window, incomplete furnishings, no Kleenex, and no hair dryer. They offered us extra points worth two days but they have never added them to our account. If you have an issue with your stay they won't do anything to make it right!

For those that want the cliff notes. Terrible experience. I checked in after a long day on the road. I usually stick to Marriott and Hilton properties and this stay reinforced why. Upon entering the lobby it was fresh and updated. I figured it shouldn’t be an issue meeting minimum expectations. WRONG. I received my key and proceeded to my room where I was met with a key swipe lock. I thought to myself, I haven’t seen one of these in 10-20 years. I entered to find the room hot. After being unable to find a thermostat, I saw manual controls on the AC. Another throw back to hotels of yesterday. The carpet in the middle of the room looked a little chewed up, which I found odd for a hotel that doesn’t allow pets. I checked the sheets and found light staining throughout and some debris on the carpet that hadn’t been vacuumed from prior guests. At this point I would have requested another room, but it was clear these were the standards set by management so this room was not an anomaly. It was late and I was staying on points I or I would have went elsewhere if this was an extended stay. On the bright side the bathroom looked clean at first sight, except my choose sticking to the floor when walking in. I proceeded to unpack what I needed to unpack. No need to worry whether to bring a USB-C charger or the older USB-A, everything in this room predates smart phones. There is electricity and I had a backup charging block so that was a plus. On to a shower in a bathroom that looked like it was from 1985. I can’t remember the last time I stayed in a hotel where the tub and toilet were beige to show cleanliness. I found. Family of earwigs coming from under the sink and quickly played exterminator. I then took a shower where the tub filled up with 6in of water with a very slow drain, despite me opening it all the way. (At this point this review was getting a two star review as I have seen worse and the front desk staff was very friendly.) Then I went to grab a towel, yellow stains, then another, even more yellow stains, yet another, looked relatively clean at last. I then barely slept due to the environment and inadequately controlled room temperate which drops this review down to 1 star. I can’t understand why so many others have given 4-5 star reviews. I spend on average a month or more per year in a hotel and it’s not too difficult to meet minimum expectations. See all the colorful photos attached.

Stayed here one night as my child was graduating from a nearby university. The location is right off I-81 and about 15 minutes drive from Virginia Tech and Radford universities. Although considered a value hotel, the room and facilities were very clean. The person at the front desk was very cordial during check-in and checkout. And was fortunate to get early check-in around noon. The king suite was nice sized and had a sleeper sofa. In the bathroom, the shower was hot and had good pressure. The complimentary breakfast had a decent selection of hot and cold choices.

The staff was so attentive and helpful. Especially Mark, he made our stay magical. The hotel was convenient to Blacksburg, shopping, food and restaurants. The checkin process was quick and efficient and the breakfast was good. But without a doubt the reason to stay here is Mark.

Stayed here 12/5/23. Property and room were very clean. Comfortable room, some of the most comfortable pillows I have ever had at a hotel. Good location to interstate. Good complimentary breakfast. Some of the best sausage gravy for a hotel breakfast. Friendly staff. I would recommend and return.
