We had a wonderful stay at the Captains Club! We were on our ‘minimoon’ and they very kindly upgraded us to a suite which was amazing. All the staff were lovely, Jane on reception was welcoming and helpful, and the staff at breakfast were attentive and friendly. The room had everything we needed, and the views were super. Breakfast was perfect, a good selection from yoghurt and fruit to cereal and then a choice of hot. We also popped to the spa, which was small but nice we could use it included in our stay. We would definitely recommend and would love to go back!

Everything we’d hoped for an Autumn break. The wonderful staff couldn’t do enough for us and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a fabulous suite so felt very spoiled. Really have nothing negative to report as even the sun shone most of the time and we could appreciate the superb views.

I would normally want to give the hotel ( including the spa and bar) a 5* / 6* review, but on this occasion, we stayed over for a Christmas party. The main positives were that I was able to check in early to enjoy the spa (love, love, love) as well as a fabulous massage with Sam (brilliant!) . Then we had drinks in the bar as the sun went down - they serve the BEST Negroni ever. The negatives were that when we then went to the Christmas party it was for several groups. This was a bit disappointing as our group of some 40 friends was sharing the event. This meant we weren’t able to ask the DJ to suit just us, ie to turn down the ( dreadful supermarket type) Christmas music so we could talk at least while we were eating. The evening would have worked much better had the party been for just the one group choosing their own music, dress code, etc. Other pluses, though, were that we ended our evening back in the lovely bar, had a superb night’s sleep and a wonderful breakfast overlooking the river.

My partner and I needed a break away after all our Christmas visitors! There seemed no point in driving far at this time of year, so we booked The Captain’s Club, just half an hour from home. We booked a 3-night Staycation for £660 which included breakfast, £40 each per day towards food and use of the Spa. We had a lovely big room with river view, bath and shower. Everything was immaculately clean. The breakfasts were beautifully freshly cooked and I enjoyed their delicious Cheese Soufflés and fish for dinners. All the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. We’ll be back!

I was treated to an afternoon tea at the Captains Club this week by a friend as a pre Christmas surprise. My friend had pre booked & made them aware that there was 1 vegetarian in the party. Upon arrival we were shown to our table & we ordered drinks. Afternoon tea was then bought to the table but instead of one standard & 1 vegetarian afternoon tea 2 standard teas arrived. I made the waiter aware we had ordered 1 vegetarian tea so he took 1 away. Having waited a while a vegetarian tea duly arrived but how disappointing was it!!!! Instead of a selection of sandwiches there were 3 rather limp egg mayonnaise on processed white bread & 1 plain cheese again on processed white bread. The scones were OK but instead of the delicious sounding cake selection on the menu there were 2 small slices of yule log and 2 coffee & walnut macaroons......hardly a selection of cakes.....I'm guessing they'd run out!!!!! All in all a very disappointing afternoon tea,not worth the money.

This is a hidden gem on the river. High end offering with friendly service. Stayed last year for our anniversary and today for some light lunch. Consistently high standards and a unique setting. Would recommend for a lazy Sunday by the river.

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to the Captains Club this year and once again enjoyed all that this unique hotel has to offer - fantastic ambiance, superb staff , comfortable spacious rooms and great food. What more could a hotel offer? Tim, You have a winning formula, so please don't change anything. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked again for another visit just after Christmas. In addition, our friends who, on our recommendation, have so far stayed twice this year have also booked again for the same period. As previously mentioned, praise to ALL the friendly and efficient staff, for whom noting is too much trouble, but a special mention for James who is always so pleasant, helpful and obliging on Reception.

My mum and I visited for our Birthday treat. On arrival we were met by James a very friendly and professional welcome. We checked into the spa, great location in Christchurch. The spa is in a small area but perfect for mum and I to relax. We both had excellent treatments by Katy and Lily. So friendly, it was lovely to meet them both. The facilities were good. The bubbly brunch was a treat, the warm welcome we received by a young man, apologies I did not get his name, tall and quite young but he was very genuine and welcoming. The restaurant team were great, thank you for our lovely brunch and a Birthday treat for Mum and I I at the end of the meal. We look forward to returning.

I Visited the Captains Club with my Wife for afternoon tea. The tea was well presented. However the Scones were burnt and probably the worst we have ever tasted. The sandwiches were dry and did not taste fresh. We have had many better Afternoon Teas so will not be returning as did not feel that it was worth the price paid.
