1 out of 5 is generous. This is the second time we have come here in the afternoon, specifically to have a coffee or tea while we perused the choosing it to have our golden wedding anniversary party here next year. Today we arrived just before 3.30pm and went to the reception. The member of staff was on the telephone, but indicated she would soon be finished. Had she been dealing with a customer, we may have had some sympathy. But during the 10 minutes, she was on the telephone, it became clear that she was talking to a colleague, rearranging her staff rota and chatting about when they would next see each other. Finally, the call ended and she turned to us. Upon requesting if we could have a tea or coffee, she told us that it was now too late, as the hotel was expecting to be too busy with a private party that was to start at 4pm. However, she did tell us we could look around, unaccompanied and with no indication of where was out of bounds. This in itself is alarming, and lacking any thought as to the security and safety of guests there. Will be perusing this as a venue for ourselves for next year? Will we returning to try again to have a coffee. Despite the large sign on the roadside outside stating non residents are welcome .... I don't think so.
