We have been back in reality just over a week following a dream holiday in Castaway. The moment we alighted from the Ferry onto the small boat, we were greeted warmly by Mickey and Benji who delivered us to shore where we were welcomed in song by members of the Castaway crew - a beautiful sound that I never tired of as guests were enthusiastically welcomed and fondly farewelled from the island during our stay. Our Bure was well appointed, with stunning high ceilings decorated with traditional, hand painted murals that vary throughout the accommodations. I don't think the photos on the website do the rooms justice. We chose an ocean view bure which was located on the south side of the island. Although the North side fared better when the afternoon breeze picked up, we were very happy and comfortable. Unfortunately, we were unable to eat at 1808 due to strong evening winds during our stay which had been highly recommended to us by friends, however we enjoyed all our meals and dined in the Pizza bar, buffet and A la carte restaurant. The quality and variety of meals was impressive and exceeded expectations. We were travelling with another family and all of the kids (ages 7-11) loved the kids club and got to take part in some amazing activities during the day. The daily activities are listed in the mornings, and there is no need to book, so the kids could pick and choose which sessions they were interested in. When they were not at kids club, we were kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and snorkeling on the reef, just a short swim out from the beach which was beautiful. We also took a couple of day trips out from the island with Captain Paul that were very enjoyable. As other reviews have mentioned, sometimes service can be on 'Fiji time' and I would recommend double checking any requests or bookings made as we had a couple of times where things we had booked, were not found by other staff members later in the day. This being said, we were well aware of Fiji time and it had very little impact on the enjoyment of our time on the island. It goes without saying that the staff on the island are what make the trip truly special. The kids felt so at home and comfortable from the moment we arrived and that only increased as the week went on. A special mention to Dave at the pool bar, Sili, Isaac & Lissy at the restaurant who we saw at each meal and of course to Mickey - master of kids club, trivia, cava making, bass playing, crab & frog racing and guest transport! We look forward to one day returning and would highly recommend a visit to anyone planning on heading to Fiji
