Alfiz Hotel

The place is beautiful and just what we wanted. It’s right in the center, you walk out right onto the busy streets of Cartagena in the walled city, yet it’s far enough away that it’s very quiet at night. It was very hot when we were there but the rooms ac was great and made it a very comfortable night. The pool is refreshing during the day and it’s nice to sit on the rooftop and have a glass of wine before going out. Service was amazing! Breakfast was delicious, the cooks were so friendly and accommodating. The receptionist Alejandra, was always on top of everything and make sure we had everything we needed. The other receptionists Maria & Karina were also very pleasant and always there to help answer questions and recommend places to visit or restaurants to eat at.

Beautiful room with balcony overlooking the street (totally quiet with double glazing). Very comfortable, pretty lounge with free coffee, excellent breakfast cooked to order, lovely helpful staff. Little swimming pool and great location in the old town added bonuses.

Great hotel - right in the centre of the old town. Some reviews have concerns about the noise at night from the streets but I found this did not worry me at all - and the location more than made up for it. The room was very spacious and the air con worked well. Breakfast was good, and the staff were excellent. I would definitely stay here again if in Cartagena.

Either this hotel has an influencers bumping their property reviews higher, or it benefits from not having a true comparison to hotels in Cartagena even those that it neighbors. Having spent a few nights in CTG especially in the old city., here’s a brief rundown of my experiences with Hotel Alfiz The good - * prices are very low especially for the size of the rooms. Ours was a loft style 2 bedroom suite. * good location - but CTG is like Venice, everything is close by for the most part. * clean * the wifi did not break down. The terrible - * awful service quality and amenities in every conceivable aspect. Unfriendly staff that disappoint in the way they manage to be transactional than welcoming. (“Airline economy cabin crew” is what springs to mind) * pedantic to the point of annoying checkin. They insist on you shoving off a Google form for checkin - mostly for marketing. While they take a scan of your passport. Imagine the other hotel checkins with welcome drinks and smiles while they do the typing for you. * no porter/help with luggage till make them - even from a cab or from reception to room or from checkout to taxi (especially if you don’t want to spring for their shuttle service) * no proper espresso machine, a Holiday Inn express type coffee machine in the reception that you make yourself and then you take it up to the pool/outdoor areas/room yourself. * the pool itself is a slightly larger, slightly shallower bath tub with a pool deck for 2 people .. and then you squeeze by those unfortunate guests and try not to knock them back into the water. **real world amenities in the room are sorely lacking or maybe they are too first world problems - like a box of tissues or accessible phones to call the unhelpful staff (ours was a 2 storeyed loft with a phone all the way upstairs. * NO RESTAURANT.. which means that their breakfast was also brought in from elsewhere.

Wonderful hotel! We really enjoyed our visit. The rooms are lovely, clean and quiet even amidst the busy walled city. Close walking distance to most everything including the dock where many of the excursions embark from. The breakfast was lovely. The staff friendly, caring and attentive.

The hotel is charming, but the poor review is due to the theft of money from the room safe. We in arrived in Colombia the night of December 11 and checked into the hotel late that night. There were no instructions on how to work the room safe. The next morning, we asked the office staff on duty for help and were shown how to work the safe. So I did see the office staff had a master key to open the safe. We had withdrawn a large amount of cash from our bank just before the trip, so I knew the exact amount we had placed in the safe, after taking some money out to change at a money changer. Late that afternoon, when we checked the safe, $500 was missing. I informed the person on duty immediately and she called the manager by phone. They said they would ask the security company to provide them with the recording of the security camera tape. The manager received the tape that night. I viewed the tape the following day. The tape around the time the theft (which probably occurred around noon), had a large time gap right about then with no recording. When I asked about it, the explanation given was it was a motion activated camera and there was no activity to trigger a recording. All other gaps in the recording (from morning till evening that day) were very short. We are very disappointed. It spoiled what would have been an enjoyable trip to a very interesting city.
