Selectum Family Resort Varadero

Our family stayed at this resort for a week, and we’re so glad we made the right choice! We have a 4-year-old, so we were initially concerned about food options, but Chef Gökhan Gökalp and Mustafa made it such an easy and enjoyable experience. The food was great, and there was always plenty on the table. We tried all the restaurants at the resort and especially loved the Cuban and Italian ones. I also want to give a special shoutout to the Jazz Bar. Enrique is hands down the best bartender—he makes incredible drinks and is super friendly and chatty. Alexey was also amazing; his positivity and energy are contagious! If you’re traveling with kids, there’s a kids’ club and a daily kids’ disco at 8 PM, which was a big hit with our little one. The entertainment team is fantastic, too—always making sure everyone is having fun. Huge thanks to Michael for all the great vibes! The only thing we found a little underwhelming was the beach—it wasn’t quite what we expected compared to Varadero Beach. However, it was still a beautiful spot, and honestly, it gave us the perfect excuse to go explore the city, which added so much to our trip. Overall, it was an amazing vacation, and we’d definitely recommend this resort and be back!

New hotel. Staff were very nice. Common washroom incredibly clean. Room is also cleaned immaculately well. A/C works very well, cold and not humid at all.Coffee is night ang day difference from lobby bar to buffet. No shortage of food n drinks. Mini fridge has 2 beers and 2 coke but never refilled. No problem with hot water shower as well tissue paper. Beds and pillows are super comfy. You can really sleep well. Bed sheets are clean and good quality. Really enjoyed buffet area- it’s air conditioned! Been to other resorts and never again will eat in area with no A/C- imagine sweating while eating. Have to eat fast and go back to room asap. They have panini press, 3 kinds of butter to choose. There’s bacon, lots of eggs, endless pork chops as in every day- lunch and dinner! Hash browns are the best as well as pancakes. Lots of fresh fruits. Didn’t see any cockroaches at all! No flies/ birds at the buffet area. What’s really best is …no mosquitos!!! Unlike in cayo coco where mosquitos will eat you alive. Here, we didn’t use any repellant for the whole week. And we didn’t smell anything unusual to keep mosquitos at bay. But outside the hotel, late afternoon- there you will find all the mosquitoes. Convenient store is just a 5 min walk from the hotel to buy presents. BTW, I don’t drink beer anymore but in Cuba, old habits came back- they have the best beer I ever tasted! Cons: 1 of duvet blankets has stain- has to call multiple times and eventually got changed the next day. Have to sleep on 1st night without blanket. Beach has lots of rocks- can’t really swim. Not a big deal, just few minutes walk to nearby Grand Aston resort. Bottled water not refilled everyday- have to ask multiple times. Although there’s lot of food, it’s the same food. Pan fried - pork chops everyday and tilapia alternate with mussels. Nothing is pre cooked so you have to wait a long time to get served. Cooks only utilize half of the cooking surface even though there’s a long line. Cuban day is a big disappointment…no bbq!! Just regular buffet meal done outdoors and no seafood at all! Got chicken only 2 days in 1 week- fried wings only, no other cuts. Deserts are abysmal- no taste and not appetizing to look at. Didn’t like the soup. Sausages salty, white sausage which I really liked- served only 1 time. No shrimps, no big fishes, no bbq chicken, no bbq pork. Juices too too sweet, I think they use powdered mix. Verdict: will go back if food selections are improved.

Selectum did not disappoint! We usually travel to Cayo Coco however this year we decided to switch to Varadero, and I am so happy we did! We flew Sunwing and arrived in the morning. Airport was quick, luggage was quick. Bus beers were delicious! We arrived at the resort by noon, and to our surprise all three of our rooms were ready! Rooms are spacious, we had pool view, and it was beautiful. Everyone from the front desk to the lobby bar were amazing! Wifi is free, yes, a bit spotty but it did work well in our room. We went the first week of December and it was not very busy, we had the entire pool to ourselves most days. Food was decent, we found something to eat every day, no shortages! The kids and teen club are nice and our kids loved going there! I did check out the spa to get a massage, it was great, and well-priced. I will agree with most people that the beach isn't the best. We took the bus to town and went to the beach there and it was perfect! This place is my new favourite! Thank you to all the staff! You are amazing!

This was our first time in Cuba and this resort exceeded our expectations tremendously . Very nice staff , never ran out of any food , good drinks , bottled water , clean rooms and pool area . The beach is Rocky but there are parts that are better and if you want a better beach you just go in to varadero for $5.

My family and I travel often and have been to many places for a long time. We have been staying for almost a month at Selectum Family Varadero. My family and I were pleasantly surprised when we saw the variety of food and how deliciously it was prepared. And then it turned out that all of these are run by a wonderful person named Gökhan gökalp. A person who professionally knows the products and was able to control the entire process. My experience in this place was 100/10. Wonderful. Incredible!!! Went there with my husband for his bday and the attention, the food, the ambiance. Everything was more than I could’ve expected. An special shout out to Rossio, Susana and Adrian. Actually the entire crew and the chef!!! We were delighted by them with all their professionalism and assistance. We felt like home. It was my first time at the Selectum Family Varadero and I couldn’t been more pleased and happy. Thank you so much for this amazing time. We will definitely come back soon!!! I recommend it!!!
