Hotel Cala d'Or Playa

We have just returned from 10 nights self catering and we had a lovely family holiday. For us we felt the location was perfect, close enough to all amenities but far enough away that it wasn’t too noisy. There is a supermarket just up the road which is a little on the expensive side but further up the same road there is a larger supermarket with more variety and is cheaper. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby to choose from, and there is a fun park for children just up the road with bouncy castles etc which our child loved. The hotel is situated right in between two lovely beaches however we preferred a slightly longer walk to cala petita. We had a ground floor superior room which although seemed smaller than it looked on the photos we saw prior, was plenty big enough for 2 adults and our toddler. Our only issue with the room was that on arrival we noticed a constant whirring noise which was quite loud in our room and on our first night kept us awake a lot throughout the night. I believe the noise was likely to be the hotel ventilation system or something similar. We did consider asking to move rooms as we were so disturbed but instead we turned up our child’s white noise machine and drowned the noise out instead! We were a little disappointed that we had to do this every night to sleep, especially considering we paid for a superior room. Breakfast was an extra €17 per adult but we only used this option once for convenience. The snack bar was great and we particularly enjoyed the salads and smoothies from there. We didn’t struggle to ever find a sun lounger however all the ones closest to the pool or in favourable locations were occupied from 10am for the rest of the day. The gym was a basic hotel gym which was more than adequate for a good workout. We didn’t watch any evening entertainment as for us personally it was quite late with a young child. I understand children stay up later on holidays but even with a nap our child is exhausted by 7:30pm which is unfortunate as he never got to experience the children’s disco (starts at 8:15). The poolside was slippy in areas as mentioned in other reviews but no slippier than any other pool area i have visited. In conclusion, providing we could guarantee not being in the same room as previous, we will consider in returning.

100% recommend this hotel. We just visited for a week in September and were already looking to come back for next year. We travelled as a couple with our 3 year old daughter. Highlights: - Pools and water slides, fantastic! Suitable for all ages and a great addition to the hotel. Really clean and well maintained. - Pool bar/restaurant, we stayed on B&B and the breakfast was lovely. A real selection of traditional English brekkie, pastries, cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. We also had a couple of lunches and dinners separately and they were great. Salads, pizzas, burgers, tapas, all lovely! - Location, such a good area, just a 10 minute walk from the local square full of restaurants and bars, supermarket about a 4/5 min walk away and near the beaches. Plus near the bouncy castle parks too. - Entertainment team/staff, Charles, Maria, Jose, to name a few all of the staff at Cala D’or were an absolute delight, and couldn’t do any more for you. - Rooms, rooms were clean and spacious, balconies were huge, and nice to have a separate lounge area to the main bedroom. If I could be ever so slightly critical, the drinks were very expensive, even €5 for a Diet Coke which seemed quite steep, BUT we ended up just going to the local supermarket a few minutes walk away and stocking up on our own, but just something to bear in mind if you’re going. All in all, can’t wait to return next year! Thank you!

Stayed as a family of 3 in the first 6 nights of June in a superior apartment. Paid extra, (this is new), for a pool view and pool towels. We had the very top floor which was ok apart from the first night when we arrived to find the lift broken and had to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Top floor also has no shade on the balcony so if you like that then request one lower. This was our 4th visit, having been before in 2014, 2021, and 2023. And it was not the same experience! With the departure of the lovely Rudi and no more evening buffet, what had also disappeared was any decent evening entertainment and bar service with a smile. Instead there was a kids show which we missed as eating out and when we returned they were just wrapping everything up at 10:30pm and said right kids that’s it and parents I’m sure you also want to go to bed and so off everyone dutifully went in a mass exodus. Where are the fantastic shows? The party in the pool? The BBQ night and parrot show? The lovely cocktails served til nearly midnight? The atmosphere? Oh dear, what has happened? Breakfasts were as good as usual, especially the lady who does the eggs who is lovely and will cook to order. However clearly breakfast supplies are so good we witnessed many tables taking piles of bread, eggs, and fruit and shoving them in their bags clearly for a cheap lunch. Many of the sunloungers need replacing and are not very clean, the step in the jacuzzi pool was broken, and the paddles for ping pong are worn. No money is being invested. Entertainment cut back, staff cut back. Why? Also on one night we had a meal booked at Churchills on the marina, which is excellent do go, yet reception appeared to have a broken phone and couldn’t call a taxi, although they did provide a very good shrug of the shoulders. We walked to the Cala Azul which we have also stayed in many times and got a taxi in 5 mins and a smile which was nice. Overall we enjoyed our holiday as we are fortunate to be able to eat out every night and Cala D’Or is great but this hotel has lost its sparkle for us. If you have very little ones then you may enjoy it especially if you like an early bedtime and a takeaway pizza for dinner which the hotel now provides. We will return to Cala D’Or but I think we had the best out of this hotel and so like Rudi we will also now retire!

We have just returned from an enjoyable 5-night stay as a family of 4 with two boys aged 6 and 9. The hotel was ideal for us and had everything you needed for a short family break. We stayed on a B&B basis which was perfect as the breakfast was really good, while the hotel is ideally located with only a short walk to the many bars and restaurants of Cala D’or. Our room was quiet and had everything you needed (including a great shower!) although some more drawers for clothes wouldn’t go a miss.. We found it nice to stay at a little compact hotel rather than the hustle and bustle you get with some other locations. We never had any issues getting sunbeds throughout the day and our kids loved playing in the pool and on the slides. Special mention has to go to the Animation team who were fantastic throughout. Our kids always seem to need a bit of encouragement to initially go to these things but once they did we literally couldn’t get them away from it! Thanks to Alex, Charles and Meri (?) who really made our kids holiday, so much so there were tears on our last night! They set up various activities throughout the day including the water walk thingy, bouncy castle, water fights etc. and the Teams patience with the kids is admirable. We found all staff to be very pleasant throughout. Overall we would have absolutely no issues returning to this hotel in the future, which I think is the best recommendation you can give.

Just arrived back home after a 9 night stay. This is our 3rd year of coming back to this hotel as in previous years the hotel was absolutely amazing with no faults and the kids always had the best time & we couldn’t find a reason to find somewhere else to go. Unfortunately this year was definitely a shock for us all.. The whole week we were there we were in the same sunbeds & the same false eyelash was stuck to the floor meaning the sunbeds around the pool area was never cleaned and the pool had A LOT of black mould at the bottom this year even though I did see the cleaning sheet that gets put up to say the pools been cleaned. We decided to eat breakfast at the resteraunt a couple of mornings, the first few mornings everything was fine.. the sign at the bar states adults are €17 euro and kids under 15 go free.. My husband went and paid for his and the two kids had a selection of pastries and pancakes the first day, all was fine.. the next day, my husband got his breakfast & the kids and they asked for some toast but due to him eating I went up and got them a slice each and when walking back to the table I was asked my room number, which I happily gave as I knew my husband had paid for his breakfast and kids go free.. I got back to the table, put the jam on their toast and took a sly bite and within SECONDS, the rude barmaid behind the bar was at our table saying I would have to pay €17 as I hadn’t paid for a breakfast but she seen me eating.. I explained it was for the kids and was told “i just seen you but I will let you off this time”.. €17 for a bite of toast is laughable. The next day the rules then changed again, it’s one child eats free per paying adult.. my husband then argued again that the past few days he was getting both kids free and there was nothing on their sign to say this and again the same girl said she would let it go this time but next time it would be that he would need to pay for a child. Joke was on them really as we then went to the shop and bought cereal and stopped going down for breakfast. The animation team, I have zero words for.. the past few years the animation team were amazing. Constantly engaging with the kids to the point our kids were always sad to leave at the end of the holiday and giving them hugs to say bye.. this year the night time entertainment was shocking, absolutely no vibe at all apart from the last night there was a live band on and everyone was loving it. The kids looked forward to Dini and singing “Chocolatte”, absolutely NOTHING of the sort this year, the animation team barely engaged with our kids and it’s so sad because they just couldn’t understand why this year was so different. We usually only stay the week and this year we decided to do 9 nights and we honestly really should’ve done 7.. we were more than ready to come home. So sad that not a single member of the long serving animation team is there to pull the place back into what it once was. We also met another family last year who

We had the pleasure of staying for a week last month. The experience was faultless. Our apartment was modern, bright and spotlessly clean. The bar area is vibrant, with very friendly staff. The breakfasts varied and tasty. The pool area is again spotlessly clean, with slides for the kids. The highlight for us was the exceptional care and attention that the entertainment team paid to our daughter, and the fun that they brought to her holiday. I cannot praise them highly enough. We would 100% return.
