Gilligan‘s Backpackers Hotel & Resort

The location is perfect, right in the city centre. However, if you decide to stay in the 10-bed room on the second floor, be aware that there can be quite a lot of noise from the bar. Some acquaintances stayed in the 4-bed room on the fourth floor and told me they didn’t experience any noise. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the room was terrible. I noticed cockroaches nymphs, and I also got quite badly bitten by what I believe may have been fleas or bed bugs, although I’m not sure which. I informed the staff, and to their credit, they were diligent and offered me a few options, such as changing my bed and washing my clothes for free, to help deal with the issue on my last night. I liked that the shared spaces, including the kitchen (with all the necessary appliances) and the living room with a TV, were quite spacious and comfortable.

I had a great stay at Gilligan. The location was very convenient, the rooms and common areas were clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a comfortable and enjoyable place to stay. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Cairns!

Nice room with own bathroom and shower. The pillow was like a brick, but otherwise great bunks! Huge and beautiful pool area. The club was also super nice. Nice and clean kitchen areas, multiple of them in the hostel (one in every level) so they weren’t too busy. Customer service was also amazing. Totally recommend!

Cheap and good location

Gilligans is a fun club that has activities to do everyday (all that include drinking). We booked the cheapest room, which was clubside and that meant we had to endure music blasting until 3am everyday. the kitchen didnt have an oven or airfryer which ****** to make meals, but overall, not a horrible place to stay in.

Good location right at the centre. The environment was nice and fun.

Great for a solo traveller, very busy with themed nights every nights to allow you to get to know others. Heads up if you are clubside though, the music is loud until 3am so if you want an early night I recommend a room not club side
