A truly beautiful calm and relaxing hotel. From the outside it is stunning and is situated within the pretty Downton Estate. The bedrooms are superb and full of character. The owners Pippa and Wilem are very friendly and all the staff are excellent. The food is superb and we will certainly go again. Highly recommended.

A most wonderful experience. We had been gifted an overnight stay complete with 6 course taster menu. Attention from staff was second to none; accommodation was unique, comfortable, & with great attention to detail; lounge area warm and relaxing; food was nothing short of amazing and we opted for the "wine pairing" too and so enjoyed little known wines which complemented each course. Excellent nights sleep; breakfast choice again extensive & delicious. Would love to think that we could return one day.

We found this little gem by chance online when looking for an impromptu stay over in the area on our way to the ferry heading home from the Goodwood Revival. This utterly charming property is a converted old mill with less than 10 rooms in the original granary buildings. Arriving after a long drive the manager Thomas greeted us warmly and we were soon enjoying a well deserved drink in the courtyard garden! Showered and changed in our lovely room we had a pre dinner drink in the bar followed by a magnificent meal in the wonderful dining room. A brief but very enjoyable stay definitely to be repeated!

A perfect stop-over. Lovely room with a beautiful bathroom (we were in Room no.8), friendly staff and an excellent dinner. It reminded us of some favourite similar places in France. The walk over the hill to Leintwardine was a great way to finish our visit. We'll certainly be back.

It was lovely stay. As soon as we checked in, maitre D checked our diet request (as I’m pescatarian) The room was beautiful and clean. Lovely garden. Dining room was stunning! Food was well thought out. Staffs are efficient.I’m picky, white wine is pretty expensive. Over all we had a lovely stay.

Fabulous food, gorgeous accommodation and great staff as always. This is the fourth time we have stayed and eaten in the restaurant- food is always excellent & the service is also wonderful. The tasting menu was incredibly flavourful and excellent presentation. We will return !

Great surroundings, fantastic food and caring staff. I can’t recommend Old Downton Lodge highly enough if you want a great location for a relaxing experience in a wonderful countryside location. A minor issue which did not spoil our experience was quickly rectified by the staff.

This was our second visit to Old Downton Lodge and it was every bit as good as the first. The food is fantastic, very inventive with lots of choice and interesting combinations, and the service is efficient and thoughtful. The rooms are in old stone buildings that have been beautifully renovated to a high standard with modern bathroom fittings and comfortable beds. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and we were once again struck by the attention to detail. We intend to return next year.

Old Downton Lodge is a phenomenal hotel with an equally brilliant restaurant. The setting deep into the Herefordshire hills is blissful and the buildings pay tribute to their medieval and Georgian past while exuding luxury. We were extremely impressed by all the staff. The Lodge is a great base for exploring Herefordshire because footpaths snake off in all directions.
