"Hotel muy bien situado con un personal muy amable y competente, buen servicio de atención , amabilidad e información. Las instalaciones estaban muy limpias y señalizadas, y la habitación suficientemente confortable pero falta una pequeña mesa ya que no había ni donde poner el ordenador para utilización normal. Buen colchón y temperatura ambiente. No así el baño que era totalmente insuficiente por dimensiones del mismo. Se entraba justo, y por ejemplo para usar el lavabo simplemente para lavarse las manos se salpicaba todo el suelo ya que era ”minimalista” de 30x 20 cm.; la taza del inodoro sin apenas sitio y la ducha-mampara lo justo para poderte mover. Lo dicho apenas 3 metros cuadrados de cuarto de baño. El desayuno tipo continental muy flojo , no merece la pena contratarlo."

AAndyInBangkokA superb historic property under private management and ownership - actually, in the ownership of the same family for over 400 years altho’ now a member of the Small Luxury Hotels marketing system affiliated with Hilton. The property in its adjoining Gardens are a destination in themselves, along with the nearby (400m) Santa Clara monastery. They may be sufficient for some visitors, but it’s about a 15 minute walk to the centre of Coimbra and it’s main historical area.
Arthur Wellesley - aka Viscount Wellington - was a visitor during his Iberian campaign, so you’re in good company.
Staff are superb and obviously hand picked by the owner. The receptionist when I arrived (Evening of Sunday 16 February) was simply the best I’ve ever experienced, Singapore, Bangkok and Tokyo included. Genuinely fascinating to talk to about the history of the building and some of the previous guests (famous but ‘passed’ celebrities so no confidence is breached).
Best to stay in the rooms in the main building if possible, if tales of the previous occupant intrigue. Although the spa Is impressive – up to best Thai standards - and I guess the adjoining spa rooms may be equally good.
Overall, an absolute gem that far exceeded expectations.

Beds are comfortable & the shower water pressure was amazing, their breakfast was great too, lots of fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, juice & all kinds if breads, pastries, coffee
etc. The young ladies at the reception were so kind & caring. The room, bed & bathroom were all spacious.

TTamuWe stayed two nights in apartment 2.2 - one bedroom with a small office room which has a desk and single bed. Location was great, being right off the main pedestrian strip in the old town area, so very atmospheric and convenient for restaurants. Check-in is at Hotel Oslo, about 4min walk away so you will have to walk with your luggage for a few minutes, including up some stairs. The apartment building also does not have a lift, so you will need to be able to carry your luggage up stairs within the building. I don't think you would be able to call an Uber or taxi to the street in front of the building as it is very narrow so bear this in mind. Some other minor points I noticed about the apartment which you may find helpful:
- It directly faces another building on a narrow street, so the apartment doesn't really get natural sunlight
- There is a washer but no dryer - it took a whole day for our clothes to dry and the rack sat in the living room
- The apartment fittings are starting to feel a bit worn down

TTamuI stayed at this hotel for two nights from August 3 to August 5, 2025. First of all, the hotel’s location is excellent—it’s near the square, making it very convenient to reach all the attractions. My room faced the river, offering a beautiful view of the Rio Mondego. This is an established hotel, and although the furniture is somewhat old, but everything is very clean, which didn’t affect my stay at all. The hotel staff are very warm and hospitable. The breakfast is a standard European-style buffet, providing enough nutrition to fuel a day of exploring. Most notably, I was initially concerned about the WiFi strength, but after recent improvements, it’s even better than what I have at home—upload and download speeds both exceed 300 Mbps, which was a pleasant surprise. To sum it up, I found my room to be great value for money, more memorable and impressive than many four or five-star hotels.
