There is so much to the outstanding pieces of the puzzle of this beautiful resort town in Lech, and Pension Cafe Fritz fits right in. It is a wonderful spot, very convenient to the Cable Car to Zurs and then St Anton, and to the Cable car to Oberlech. Its also just across the river from the main chairlift at Lech, leading to Warth and Zug. Its a 3 or so minute walk. The hotel is old and new. Old in that the furniture is classical. Traditional. New in that its super clean, well finished and clearly well kept. AND, there is nothing in the hotel from IKEA. Anywhere. There is nothing bad about IKEA. But this is all the good stuff. From the old days. LOCATION: A bus brings you from the St Anton train station to downtown Lech and stops in front of the Strolz ski shop. Right behind this is the Hotel Berghof. There is an elevator from the alley up to the level of the Berghof and Cafe Fritz. Go up the elevator, Walk north 100 - 150 feet feet and you'll see Cafe Fritz just adjacent to Sanbur and Schwarzwand. Also, across the street from the Krone (and the K Club), there is a ramp up the hill that passes into the beautiful St Nikolaus Cathedral. You can walk up there and the road leads right to Cafe Fritz. ENTERTAINMENT: right down the road - is Cafe Gotthard, a great little restaurant and one of the all time favorite restaurants in Lech, Hus no. 8 is right across the street next to the Spar grocery store. And many many others. PEOPLE and FOOD: Andreas is a great guy and he runs a good ship. The food at Cafe Fritz is wonderful. Breakfast is included, at least it was when I was there. Beautiful Renata is your host for breakfast. They serve a full lunch and dinner also. It can get busy there as the kids ski school is right next to Cafe Fritz, and the locals all know where to eat. ROOM: The room was bigger - far bigger - than a room at 2.5X the price in the area of the Lechs fancy hotels. I had a view of the mountain. There were big closets, dresser with drawers and shelves, super comfortable bed, water boiler to make coffee tea. Bathroom was nice with hot shower and a wall heater to warm up gloves and dry out stuff. And 40 feet from the elevator, The window opened - an unusual thing in the days of hermetically sealed hotel rooms. Good couch to sit and ponder. Overall, as big as an American hotel room but nicer as it had the Austrian charm. Also, the walls must have had good insulation as no noise came in - at all. SKI ROOM and STORAGE: The ski room is the best I have seen. To have dry boots and a clean place to get into your ski gear is a luxury. And to walk only 2-3 minutes to the lifts? Thats a big part of the experience. Overall, this was a great place to stay central to many restaurants and shops and tons of entertainment. But key for skiers: its so close to the lifts.
