Vila Bled

I found this hotel amusing and fascinating. It seems as if it is frozen in time from the socialist era when it was President Tito’s summer residence. Furnishings and linens all spotless. Ditto sparkling clean bathroom. Food was high quality and well prepared. Nice private sauna (book ahead). And not to overlook - the incredible views from the hotel site on the edge of the Lake.

An interesting place, and overall we enjoyed our stay (lakeview suite) but it's rough around the edges in places and wasn't exactly up to what you would expect for the money (+300 euro per night). It must have been quite a place in it's heyday but it's definitely due for some updating Pros: interesting old space, lovely grounds (some more outdoor seating would be nice), private swimming area and boat house. Dinner in the dining room was quite good albeit a minimum of 100 Euros. The view from the suite was absolutely stunning. Staff were helpful and friendly Cons: breakfast was pretty sad the first morning and even sadder on the second morning with even fewer options. for $1000 CAD for two nights there I'd expect a shower without any mildew (there was lots). Vila Bled no longer lives up to their reputation. Like many old hotels, their prime has passed. Our shower leaked, which flooded the bathroom. The front desk could not be bothered with this issue. The front desk could not send up housekeeping,spare towels, nor come take a look himself. I attempted to reach the front desk 12 times over 5 hours to make sure they were aware of the standing water, no answer. Finally went down, and no one was at the front desk. He was nowhere to be found. Finally the night front desk was concerned enough to let us know the handyman would be at the room first thing in the morning. Handyman did come. But only slight improvement to the problem. Unfortunately due to Vila Bled's disregard of safety and lack of follow through, the flooding continued the next day. I slipped in the bathroom. I again let them know this is a safety issue and why. They yet again could not be bothered to do anything about it. Be careful if you stay here. If they try to assign you room 208, ask if the shower was ever fixed... They knew about the issue for weeks before we stayed there. Yet again, did nothing.

The hotel is excellent, but it is not up to the price tag. (I’ll review the outstanding g restaurant separately). The room is modest and missing AC and a luggage rack. The staff are extremely helpful. The location is amazing, with the best view of the lake. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the centre of town, but the town is not really the appeal of Bled. There is a swimming area and rowboat rental available, so you really have the best of Bled in the facilities.

First, no AC. The alternative is loud ceiling fan. Washbasing broken. Soundproofness nonexisting. Way overpriced for what you are getting. While the room is very spacey, it just doesn’t make up for the losses. Garden is breathtaking though. It’s a shame for such a potential.

On the top of a hill, right on the shore of lake Bled, Vila Bled blends perfectly as an old manor in the forest that surrounds it…views are breathtaking, on the lake, on the castle and on the island… Room is a bit old but perfectly maintained. Bed is king and very comfortable. Bathroom is good and shower very agreable. The restaurant is on the terrace, overlooking the lake. Food is OK but cenario is marvelous… plenty of parking aroung the house. Just amazing
