Recently attended a wedding at Maes Manor and the main positive from the visit was the wedding was beautiful and couldn't have gone better for the couple. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for the guests on the day. Now unfortunately for the negative. My husband and I booked a room, £110 with breakfast, so a little on the pricey side for Blackwood, but it is a wedding venue so we expected it. But we were placed in the very tired and dated annex building around the back of the manor. It was very shabby and dated, it reminded me of a cheap American roadside motel. The room was quite small, and the view outside the window was of a hill covered in litter, but at least the room did appear to be clean. There was nowhere to hang our clothes up, only a small little rail (weirdly placed right in front of the TV) with no hangers at all. The bed was very uncomfortable, so much so that both of us didn't get much sleep due to us both having pain in our sides just from lying on the bed. The room was very cold, luckily as the weather has been warmer this wasn't a present issue, however I can imagine those staying here in colder seasons it would be very uncomfortable. We were the first ones in for breakfast as we checked out early just so we could go home to sleep! There are nicer rooms in the venue as we saw the ones inside the manor that friends were staying in, so I recommend if you want to stay here do not stay in the outside building, ask for a room inside the manor instead. Although I would suggest to the venue to close the outbuilding altogether for a full refurbishment, as it is a completely unacceptable accommodation for an advertised luxury wedding venue with the prices charged to stay there.
