Subject: Overnight stay at The Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle. The Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle. In the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the Welsh Border - The Marches. One of our favourite escapes for a short stay, especially when there are such tempting offers at The Castle Hotel. It has a fabulous location perched high up overlooking the town surrounded by the Shropshire Hills. We stayed overnight in Room 3 on the first floor, a large welcoming, comfortable room with a huge bed and a feature roll top bath for a touch of indulgent bathing. There is also an en-suite shower room, so no excuses for being late for dinner. We have stayed in several rooms at The Castle Hotel and we agreed this is the room we will try to get on future visits. The two bars are warm and inviting with a good range of local beers and spirits and open fires with the possibility of informal dining although the more intimate wooden panelled restaurant is delightful. We especially like the new garden room at the far end of the lounge with access to the newer terracing with a variety of covered accommodation in the garden. The well trained, friendly, efficient staff are most welcoming and can take of most request. The food is excellent, be it breakfast, lunch, dinner or any time snacks. Professional chefs with a good choice of delicious recipes. Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay, looking forward to our next escape. Eddie and June Watkins

Another lovely stay at The Castle Hotel. We were lucky to have our room upgraded and it was very comfortable. Even though it was the last day before they were closing for the post Christmas period we were made to feel welcome and not at all rushed. The food was delicious both at dinner in the pub and for breakfast.

The room was excellent although we waited until mid pm for room to be serviced. The food was mixed half of the stay it was excellent the second day it left a lot to be desired cold toast awful scrambled egg and cold soup dry chicken. Felt the floors in public areas looked a bit grubby

Had a lovely stay for my works party. Very nice comfy and clean rooms. Beautifully decorated and lovely staff. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. I will 100% return again as it was a lovely place to stay. Price wasn't terrible either

An excellent weekend break on one of the wildest December Saturdays thanks to Storm Darragh. But we couldn’t have had a better place to hide out… The hotel was lovely. Staff were friendly and accommodating, room was warm and spotlessly clean, beds were comfy, bar was festive and inviting and evening meal was great. Lovely to wake up to a cooked to order breakfast and cold buffet selection. A fantastic stay…next time we hope to come and try a little walking without risk of getting blown away!

Great value character hotel. Super customer service. Really dog-friendly with blankets, bowl and a sausage for breakfast. The DBB desk was top notch with a superb 3 course dinner and breakfast. Bar area cosy and welcoming . Convenient for walking and touring. We had a lovely time.

Great value, modest hotel. Courteous service, really dog-friendly with a bowl, blankets etc supplied. We were on a dinner, B&B deal - fab breakfast (including for the dog) and top notch 3 course dinner, the bar was really cosy and it’s convenient for walking and touring. We had a great time.

We stayed overnight and, having booked directly through the Hotel, received a complimentary upgrade to a suite. The room had been recently and tastefully refurbished to a high standard; it was extremely comfortable, with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. Although it was midweek and during a cold snap, the Hotel was still quite busy serving dinners. Each of the bars had cosy fires lit, serving a selection of cask ales and surprisingly good food. (The mixed game suet starter was a delight.) Breakfast was also top notch . Without exception, the staff were friendly, efficient and well trained. Well done!

We had a lovely two night stay in November at the Castle Hotel! A beautiful old "creaky and twisty" coaching house that really makes you feel as 'though you have just stepped from a horse drawn coach or just pulled up on your 1920's road trip, just like in the movies! After all it's 300 years, it has been sympathetically modernised and retains much of the character from it's early years and is kept spotlessly clean! The room was cosy and warm. The only things I would improve on is levelling the bedside tables with wedges and a couple more lamps for mood lighting. All the staff were warm and welcoming and happy to help with anything. A really nice touch was that you could help yourself to chilled water or milk from a fridge on the landing. Breakfast was splendid (apart from the pancakes being too thick for the Mrs) with a good range to choose from. We had a delicious evening meal, again there was a great choice of dishes. Bishops Castle is a lovely village to visit and a great base for exploring surrounding Shropshire and I don't think we will find anywhere better to stay than the Castle Hotel! We will return!
