The Captains Quarters

My partner and I stayed here in August 2023 and although the room we stayed in was clean and had the basic facilities you would expect from an average establishment, it was over priced (£320 for two nights) for what we actually got and was not up to the "boutique" standard as advertised. We we offered an uncooked breakfast (cereal/fruit and yogurt/toast) on site as we were advised by Elisabeth, the host that the deli where we were supposed to eat was closed due to staff shortages. The set up at breakfast was a bit uncomfortable as we had to share a medium sized table which was crammed with ornaments and clutter as well as breakfast dishes with another two couples so there was a lot of passing milk, serving plates, jams etc back and forward to each other, so although we were looking forward to a bit of comfort and a "delicious cooked breakfast" at the deli (as advertised", sadly it was a very ordinary stay

Lovely building in a great location but that's about it. The room, albeit large, was flitfhy - the amount of dust alone was ridiculous. Wi-fi hit and miss and a very strange setup for the breakfast - one night in our room; the other in a deli 5 mins from the accommodation. The owner shouldn't be in the hospitality business - sadly she lacked any form of decorum, impossible to track down when we had wifi issues and my other half was near certain she was constantly under the influence. We enjoyed a hearty meal one evening at a nearby 'pub' and mentioned where we were staying to the owner - that alone opened a can of worms and apparently (unbeknown to us at the time of booking) this property and Elizabeth have been the talk of the town for over 15 years....sadly not in a good way. Overpriced and dirty there are much better options out there. We won't be returning but if you do fancy an authentic Fawlty Towers experience then this is the place to stay!
