Sadly we could only stay for one night but the owners and staff were delightful from the moment we booked to when we left. Food was so tasty and the wines were delicious. Pierre’s history tour was incredibly moving and despite me getting a B minus for what I remember that was in no way was the teacher’s fault ! A lovely beautiful quiet spot that everyone should make an effort to find. I wish we could have hiked into the Drakensberg mountains but that will have to wait for next time! The lovely staff made us feel we were home from home and we could not ask for more

Beautiful location, looked after by a fantastic team, incredible food, stunning accommodation. Dawn walks with Reuben a top highlight. A perfect place to re-wild our children (and ourselves) and to start our SA adventure. Thank you all at Three Tree Hill; we'll be back..!

Our stay at Three Thee Hill definitely warrants a 5 star or 10/10 review….. from the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Melanie and Cheryl and showed to our lodge, which itself has the amazing views over the valley. We did an optional guided walk with Cheryl (the owner) which from the first steps was very special; we nearly stumbled into some Zebra and did a beautiful walk for circa two hours into the game reserve. Food that evening was excellent, as it was for the rest of our stay. Our main full day was spent with Pierre who is a walking history book on all things Spioenkop; his introduction over breakfast (wonderful again – surroundings and food itself) and his on-site explanations really brought the atrocities and mistakes of the battle to life; highly recommended for anyone with an interest into the past of South Africa.

Three Trees is simply wonderful in every respect. The setting is sublime, the rooms are stunning, the food is fantastic and every member of the team treats you as if you are part of their family. We were the only guests for our first two nights, and rather than leave us to dine alone, the owner Cheryl hosted us, along with one team member and his mother, which made the first evening so special. The second night we ate with Pier, who knows everything about everything and gave us a brilliant time. Speaking of Pier, his Spion Kop tour is fantastic and brought this historic event to life. If you visit, make time for the village tour - we were taken by Melanie (who is a superb and friendly lodge manager) and N’tobeku, a wonderful Zulu native who showed us her home, explained Zulu traditions and taught us so much. And then just walk around the estate and look at the wildlife and nature. All in all, a wonderful experience and we hope to return soon.

Amazing location with incredible views, staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable with stunning views of the mountains and valley below. Loved the home cooked food and wonderful wine cellar. Wish we could have stayed for longer to do some of the excursions and horse riding.

We had two nights in this lovely place. Everyone here is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food is absolutely excellent and very fresh local produce. There are so many activities available and we even had breakfast whilst watching nearby giraffe's have theirs. We did a battlefield tour with Pierre and it was fascinating. He is so knowledgeable but presents it in a very accessible way. He also places the events in the context of the history of the country so you understand not only what happened here but why it happened. We were so pleased we came here it is a real gem.

We didn't stay here - instead we pre-booked to go on their guided tour to Spioenkop and then had lunch back at the lodge. Three Tree Lodge was very stylish, comfortable and welcoming. Lunch was delicious (thank you for the vegetarian option). Best of all was Pierre the guide - super knowledgable, enthusiastic and friendly. He did a great job - setting the battle in the context of South African - and world history. A fantastic visit, despite the atrocious weather!

A more than perfect stay for us. My husband interested in the Zulu & Boer war history was immersed with Pierre in his guided outings. I was immersed with Simon & Ruben in nature and animal hikes. Everyone so knowledgeable, friendly, passionate. The lodge atmosphere is like “Out of Africa”. I’ve never seen such complete attention to detail in the culinary food, the bedroom and bathroom, the library….

This lovely lodge ticked all the boxes. Magnificent lodge with a great view of Spioenkop. Excellent walking tours. Pierre gives a truly great tour of the battlefield site. Cooking to die for. A well stocked and comfortable library. In fact I would move in!
