Discovery Parks - Lake Bonney

We booked and paid for a weeks stay here after being sold over the phone 'an elevated unobstructed view of the lake ' with this site personally selected by the lady on the other end of the phone line. Sounded perfect and exactly what we needed - somewhere to destress and recharge after a particularly stressful previous 6 months. Travelled most of the day, leaving at 7am, arrived around 4, checked in and went to our site. Positioned our van and did a quick set up - realizing that the situation isn't level or elevated and view of the lake is only unobstructed at this point in time as no one is on the site in front of us. Guess what happened the next day? I went out to the shops mid morning and returned to someone on the site in front of us with their van right in the middle of their site totally blocking our view, complete with a privacy screen and car positioned to complete the blocking (see picture). Wife was in tears, so sought out the manager, who, when told of my predicament (very upset wife who was promised one thing and delivered something very different) and looking at the set up in front of us, proceeded to say he could still see the lake! He went back to the office (to see ' what he could do ') and came back with we could move to an elevated site maybe 100 metres down the road, but site isn't available for a couple of days.. so we were expected to put up with this for a couple of days, spend most of 1 day packing up and setting up, then we were leaving a couple of days later??!! Needless to say, the wife didn't want to stay (she's pretty tough and it takes a lot to upset her and I didn't blame her. If we're going to pack up we might as well go elsewhere. Asked for 5 nights refund and got that with the added proviso that ' we don't go on the Internet and attack our staff!' . Customer service was ordinary from check in, to the handling of our complaint to the processing of our refund. We've traveled around Australia full-time for nearly 3 years and it's largely been a fantastic experience. Our stay here has been the worst experience we've had, which is a pity because the area is beautiful (which is why I gave a 2 star rating instead of 1).

Absolutely beautiful location by the lake and it is a very clean and tidy park, however I felt like a nuisance when I checked in on 12/5:25 , as if I was interrupting the lady’s day. When she finally came out of a side room at reception there was no greeting just “checking in”? Was handed the ensuite site key and a paper with the gate code. No park map and no directions as to where our site was. So unprofessional and no customer service skills at all. I will say that the older lady on reception when I handed the keys back a couple of days later was very pleasant. I’m sorry I have to write this review but this is what happened and I wasn’t very impressed. Have travelled with our van all around Australia and this is the first time I can honestly say this is how I felt on checking in. A smile and a greeting to your customers doesn’t cost anything so please try it.

Didn’t get the spot we originally booked, tried to rebook a different spot for the following year, the lady on the counter Karen Hill was very rude. Really put us off wanting to re book. They won’t take bookings as they save them for people that have been going there for 50 years apparently, lol. I read the discovery park terms and conditions and there nothing in there about not accepting bookings for a future holiday period till the current one is over. Sound like favouritism at its finest. Anyway, Karen was a true Karen out of all Karen’s and I’d most likely the queen of Karen’s.

Had a booking for 4 weeks which we changed to two weeks with 3 months notice to the office. Asked and received a statement of Tariff and how much we owed. Got it and paid up full amount two weeks before our arrival. Received a receipt and statement showing we were fully paid up. Arrived on 25/4/25 to be told we needed to pay an extra $184 because they made a mistake in our tariff. We paid it as we had driven from Melbourne to get there. So we paid $47 per night. Asked about the $20 per night deal and were told we don’t qualify. The vans around us are paying $20 per night. (They also booked on the phone like us). Possums are everywhere in the trees so our car and van are covered in possum poo. Asked to be shifted to an open site. they said that the park is booked apart from two sites offered which have trees. Staff showed no care or concern for us. Will never return to this park. Spoke to other patrons here and found out this is a common problem here.

Amazing facilities for all ages. Two pools, splash park, jumping pillow, playground, pump track, lake trampolines, pedal cars, canoes, pedal boats, water bikes and coffee van onsite at 7am. We were upgraded to the Deluxe Balcony Cabin, and glad we were because these are perfect and worth the money. There is enough parking at this cabin to park a boat and car for your peace of mind. The onsite boat ramp isn’t great and don’t recommend with a heavy boat but there is a concrete boat ramp just out side the complex with plenty of parking. Would definitely recommend this park for families.

Beautiful relaxing park on a lovely lake in a quiet town. We stayed 7 nights on power site with views across the lake,, enjoyed many stunning sunsets. Greet location for trips to other towns along the Murray River. The town itself had a great supermarket, with friendly people. Fabulous walking path along the lake. The park offers so many options for all visitors. Will be back.
