We "stayed" in Villa Bugis (Alam) in Seminyak on a family trip last month. While the pictures looked great on their website, when we checked in we found the villa rooms to be worn out and dated. The a/c in the rooms wasn't effective either. On hot and humid nights in Bali, one would really feel the lack of proper air conditioning. That was, however, not too much of a problem for us. We didn't expect this villa to be a luxury, 5-star stay. It was ok so far. Then in the evening, the situation changed altogether. We found a live snake outside one of the bedrooms in the sitting area. With two children in our family, we thought this was not something we could accept. We didn't know if the snake was venomous or not, but who wants to find out. We immediately called the villa staff to let them know we would be leaving right then. We asked for a refund of our stay. The response was truly disappointing. No checking to see if everyone was ok, no follow up call or text, just a terse "we'll discuss further tomorrow". We did leave the villa the same night and moved into a hotel nearby. The next day, we got a cold reply from the management, refusing any refund, hiding behind terms and conditions. Can you reasonably expect a villa property to be free from potentially deadly reptiles? I guess in their view, not.
