Meena Amma's Tea Experience

Meena's place is a wonderful chance to experience Sri Lankan village life. We learned about the tea cultivation process but also really enjoyed cooking with Meena and learning how to make traditional food. Meena's kindness and patience was very much appreciated. The accommodation was also lovely. Falling asleep to the sound of the river was wonderful.

We were greeted warmly by Meena as we arrived and instantly we knew this was going to be a great stay - and it was. Meena is a lovely, warm lady who cooks beautifully. This was soon apparent as we started tucking into her lovely dinner (on our day it was chicken curry with potato ten pot, green bean curry and dahl). Our accommodation was clean and roomy with excellent views. We would not hesitate to recommend Meena to any couple or family who are interested is an authentic and tasty Sri Lankan experience. NB: you will need a driver or a tuk tuk to take you there as it is a little off the beaten track.

Incredible and unique experience. My mum and I stayed in Meena Ammas linehouse for one night prior to visiting Houghton Plains national park. Meena cooked us an authentic Sri Lankan dinner and was a great host. It was lovely to get an insight into an authentic village community. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We chose Meena Amma's Tea Experience because we wanted to have a closer and more genuine experience with locals, and because we wanted an accommodation close to the hiking trails of the Hortons Plains. Meena was such an amazing host. She took care of us in the best way possible. She walked with us to show us the surroundings, explained to us useful tips on Sri Lankan cuisine, and cooked for us the best and most authentic meals we had in Sri Lanka. Although, we thought that her cooking was amazing, it was a little bit salty for our taste buds. Highly recommended accommodation in a strategic location close to Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains. Just beware of the entrance road to the village is not asphalted!

Meena amma gave us the most homeliest experience we’ve ever had. We chatted for hours and she cooked the yummiest food we’ve tasted all while entertaining us with the stories of the line houses. Would recommend to anyone who’s looking for a unique experience up in the hills.

We stayed at Meena Amma's Line Rooms operated by Jetwing Warwick Gardens. Rooms were Clean and Meena Amma was a very friendly personality. We felt like home with her hospitality. She always greeted us with a warm smile and even took care of our special requests. We would like to recommend her "Payasam" to anyone seeking comfort food in that weather. Though the rooms were situated away from main property it is safer environment for anyone. Even villagers were very friendly and helpfull. We would like to recommend Meena Amma's Tea Experience to anyone who is seeking to experience authentic village life in hill country of Sri Lanka.
