My first scam hostel but after seeing reviews of other working hostels now i see they all use the same tactics. They charge you $200 bond at the beginning plus $200 beds. You will lose the bond if you leave before. Classic scam tactic i see from other working hostels. The office is only open 2 hours a day. They charge you to use a company vehicle, and tell you that you cant use your own car to go to a farm without permission and im pretty sure even if they do let you use your own vehicle, you still have to pay them anyway. If someone in your unit is caught drinking they will charge everyone $50 for it even if you had nothing to do with it. The owner dominic ir rude and hostel saying my home town was a s**thole when i first met him and others told me they had the same experience. They will make you wait for work but before you arrive will tell you it is immediate start. The rooms are disgusting. They will ask if you want to pay for extra for AC and then put you in a room without it and say “its and air conditioned unit” even though its in a room u cant access. They arent the people that pay you but if you dont show up for work they will charge you $100 fine even though they arent your employers. When we told them we were leaving early but had paid for the rest of the week the threatened to evict us the next day because we had found a different farm. And this is to you dominic, no im not the same person that you claim is making all the bad reviews. You know your hostel is terrible and a scam. All these reviews are truthful and you know it, take some responsibility for thieving ways. And for anyone else, the good reviews are written by the office staff that dominic makes them write as part of their job. Avoid this place if you want to keep your sanity. There are good farms in ayr, this is just a terrible hostel. Go to discovery parks, there are plenty of farm workers there just ask around and people will get you directly into contact with the farmers and discovery parks is 100x better than this hostel.

Don’t come here if you’re short on savings or with the intention of saving or completing 88 days with in a time frame. Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for a 8 days. Between flights, work gear, buses and the $800 deposit we spent $2,500 which left us with very little money. Upon arrival the staff we met were lovely, we were brought to our couples accommodation which was a shared apartment. It was absolutely horrific. Not due to the couple that were staying there they actually had to go out and buy cleaning products and scrub the place. The apartment bedroom had two steel bunk beds with filthy mattresses the pillow supplied to each of us was also stained. Again, I’m stating complete facts here. Each individual person in this shared apartment was paying $230 a week. That equates to $920 for the apartment. Just envision the apartment you could get in one of the major CBDs for this. They have so many of these apartments and everyone in dorms paying $210 a week. 180 people staying between the hostel and apartments and everyday the rosters were posted there was only ever 20/30 people working. The apartment was absolutely infested with cockroaches. But we cleaned the place up bought some bug spray and remained hopeful. We didn’t get any farm work and money was really running low. We spoke with many other hostel guests some were only there a few days some were there as long as 3/4 months none of these people were remotely close to completing 88 days. In fact some of them were barely earning enough to pay their rent and had only scratched off 15/20 days. The weather was fantastic the entire 8 days we were there also so no work could not possibly be blamed on the rain. We spoke to locals as well who warned us to run as soon as possible. Not that we had a choice it was either leave or stay and rack up a rent bill with no certainty of work. I will admit I got rostered to work one day, however it was not a farm, it was a cash in hand cleaning job which had nothing to do with 88 days. But I was pleased as we were so short funded after all our expenses. I did see a few reviews about the staff being nasty, that was not my experience any staff member I spoke to was extremely friendly. This entire trip really set us back to square one. Also would like to add everything you pay Ayr Backpackers is paid in cash with no receipts 🚩🚩🚩🚩

Before arriving at the hostel we were told we had work by Elle. When we arrived we were told by people staying there that there is 170 people staying there and on average only 40 are working per day. Some have been there up to a month with no work. They prey on the vulnerable who need to get there 88 Days. Apparently the positive comments on this are fake (or forced) which is something to keep in mind also.

Spent 4 months under Daddy Doms caring hands! (And caring they were baby) I didn’t personally have to do my 88 days after entering after July but it was always something I wanted to complete for myself and I don’t regret it. Had one of the best experiences I could have asked for met so many friends that I know will be for life bruddah, made the best memories on and off the farms. The farm work can be hard but the laugh you have makes it all worth it! The hostel is a little bit of a hole but grit your teeth and get through it you’re not there to be waited on hand and foot and you’re deffo not staying in the ritz. If you have any issues management and the office staff should be happy to help if they can just remember be good to them they will be good to you. Yes they are doing a job but they aren’t the farmers and they can’t make you stay on the farm you have to put the graft in yourself. I do think that the drinking on weekends being taken away each weekend was a bit of a cluck on living under the watchful eyes of the cameras in the apartment but I’m sure that’s there for our safety … or Daddehs filthy kink.. Take everything Daddy Dom says with a pinch of salt if you have banter with him he will make your time at the hostel so much more bearable I didn’t pay one fine since being at the hostel (suppose you have to be good with your mouth) The hostel is run down but when there’s over 200 backpackers coming and going what else do you expect? I do think my time would have been different if I didn’t bag myself a sexy lil farm shout out to my man Nui! Even to the day I was leaving the hostel helped me get to my next destination and let me lend a car to get to a airport after a few cancellations due to weather.. I wouldn’t say they go above and beyond but they do what they can to take your money😜 Go into it with an open mind and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed if you stick it out but like I say I was very lucky to be on a consistent farm but also my farmer loved me twerking on that trailer!

Would be a great place for people wishing to do their 88 days in 7 months, as after 4 months I still have 30 days left. When the crew in a farm get reduced it counts as being fired which put you to the bottom of the waiting list. The owner will find any excuses to give you a fine, even for ridiculous things (I’ve never been fined but loads of people have been during my stay). About being rostered, it obviously depends on available farms around, the hostel can’t provide work if there is none. Most of the time there will be empty promises from the office to fill up the hostel despite there not actually being work available. The priority for being rostered should depend on how long you have been there, but this doesn’t seem to be the case; newer backpackers will get rostered and when you ask why you haven’t been they will say there’s no jobs. Spoiler: unless you are close to the office or owner it will be kind of random. Some people get fired for bad behaviour and then still get place into the biggest farm (very consistent and good money) because of how close they are to the owner/office. People that have completed their 88 days are still rostered regardless of whether others still need to get it done because they are running out of time. TLDR : Bad hostel, in the best case you will do your 88 in around 4 and a half months which is ok. Wifi doesn’t work most of the time or is slower then 3G. The way it’s run is chaotic. The office’s efficiency is as good as a fish’s ability to fly (very bad). Owner to avoid at any cost, so you dont get any problems. Lies built on lies.

Overall I'd say I had a decent time with this hostel. I never had any issues with the management/staff we got on quite well unlike some of these other posts state. They do try their hardest to get work for everyone but that's hard to do when the weathers acting up. My only complaint would be that it took just about 6 months to complete the 88 days which sucks but that's life sometimes, doesn't always go as planned.

Spent 4 months here completing my 88 days. Work was slow at the start but once it picked up it was consistent for me and I completed my 88 days. Made some great memories here and best friends. There is nothing luxurious about a working hostel or farm work but it is what you make it :)
