Hotel le Branhoc - Brit Hotel Auray

We stayed here in 2011, and liked the area, the hotel and its hosts (Thierry & Catherine) so we decided to return in 2012 to further explore the Morbihan area. What makes this hotel special is a combination of the hospitality of the owners, the quiet location with free car parking together with the proximity to St.Goustan for restaurants in the evening. We stayed in #19 which was one of the larger rooms, tastefully decorated and had a room safe which was very useful. Continental breakfast was served in a nautical-themed room which comprised primarily of meats and cheeses together with the usual bread/brioche selection. Some guests requested boiled eggs every day, and these were readily provided. Most of the guests when we were there were either French, Dutch or German. Thierry speaks predominantly French, whilst Catherine speaks a little English. A good excuse to brush up on one’s French and try to blend in with the locals!! St.Goustan is a picturesque and lively place in the evening with several good venues to eat – crêperie Saint-Sauveur and Bara Crêpes were the two that we frequented. Would strongly recommend both of them for quality, service and overall ambience. The walk to St.Goustan is about 10-15 minutes from the hotel, but one evening Thierry showed us a short cut via a path, and even lent us a torch for the evening. There is also a Carrefour hypermarché 5 minutes drive from the hotel which is ideal for those forgotten essentials as well for cheap fuel. So much to do and see in the area – highly recommend days out to Josselin, Rochefort-en-Terre and Vannes to name just a few of the nearby locations. Visiting the nearby islands in the Gulf of Morbihan (Ile aux Moines) by boat was an enjoyable experience. Thierry booked the reservation for us, leaving from Locmariaquer, although in retrospect departing from Vannes might have been an easier choice. Several firms operate these trips but Navix appear to have much bigger boats.

From first arrival at this hotel the attitude towards customer service was on full display. The reception desk was not attended, but when a member of housekeeping staff kindly tried to help get attention for me she was rudely blanked by the proprietor. The kind housekeeper suggest I try to speak with them myself as she had been treated so dismissively. The stay itself was satisfactory in meeting our basic needs of a bed and shower. The room was clean if sparse and old fashioned in décor. After leaving the hotel, the complete lack of care or customer service again came transparent. We were travelling by motorcycle, it was raining and therefore in the packing of our luggage we missed 2 items. We quickly realised this and contacted the hotel, requesting they might be forwarded to an address elsewhere in France where we were staying a few days for a wedding. They denied the items were there. Knowing this to be a lie, we persisted and eventually the hotel confirmed they had one of the items only. By then it was too late to forward in France, so they would return the item to the UK. I was then told that this had required a tax declaration and received a demand for 40€ for tax and postage costs. This reference to taxes that needed paying was repeated on the phone. In truth NO taxes are due on the return of personal items, so when I asked the hotel for information to make a tax reclaim they admitted it was actually a charge they had imposed for their employees time. I had been mislead. I do not appreciate the pettiness, lies and poor customer service of this hotel and could not recommend it to any other traveller in case you should have some need of help or kindness.

Hôtel très sympathique et très agréable. Très bonne surprise. J’y ai passé 4 nuits reposantes. Petit déjeuner très correct. On s’y sent bien. J’y retournerai sans hésitation. Il est possible de manger dans les environs sans avoir à prendre la voiture.

Bel établissement. Un hôtel deux étoiles de bon niveau; confortable et bien équipé. Accès facile, parking à disposition. Un site bien tenu. Personnel compétent et efficace. Un rapport qualité/prix qui semble correct. Bonne insonorisation.

Hôtel situe entre Lorient et Vannes et à 2 pas du port du Goustan, le Branhoc possède un grand parking gratuit. Chambre propre ( avec un grand lit) et très au calme ( la notre donnait sur le joli petit parc arboré) SDB refaite récemment et très fonctionnelle. Le personnel est à l'écoute . Nous y avons passé deux nuits parfaites... Un 2 étoiles très agréable.

Hôtel deux étoiles, de bon rapport qualité prix, idéal pour une soirée étape. Grand parking gratuit, accès facile. Attention, demander un chambre sur jardin, joliment fleuri d'ailleurs, car la route devant l'hôtel est très passante, donc sur jardin très calme pour une bonne nuit! La chambre 30 dite ''capitaine" à la déco cabine de bateau très agréable pour une personne donne sur jardin, avec une belle et grande douche toute carrelée de neuf. A pied 10/15mm pour rejoindre le port de Saint Goustan, charmant aux nombreux restaurants et cafés.
