Mt Potts Lodge

Brilliant place to stay. Amazing location with beautiful surrounds. Comfortable accommodation. Host we’re so welcoming and went out of their way to be helpful. Food is great, local produce on menu. Brilliant desserts. Totally recommend staying here.

My partner and I had dinner at Mt Potts Lodge and it was outstanding! We had the best steak we have ever had and the views were some of the best in the country. Definitely recommend dining or staying here, the staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was lovely.

Staying at Mt Potts Lodge was the highlight of our trip! Completely surrounded by snow capped mountains and close to the filming locations for Edoras and Helms Deep in Lord of the Rings. Jen was an incredible host who fed us a wonderful Hobbit style dinner of roast meats and veggies, and then some incredible bread and butter pudding. Breakfast was just as good with eggs and bacon on toast with cherry tomatoes. The accomodation was so warm and comfortable.

My husband and I stayed at Mt Potts for 5 nights over the Easter Holidays on our honeymoon and we were blown away with the natural beauty of the area, the hospitality of the staff and the delicious meals! If I could give the service 6 stars I would! Jack and the rest of the team went above and beyond for the duration of our stay! Jack made himself available for us and was genuinely kind he made us feel so comfortable and welcome. Staying over here Easter holiday the restaurant was unfortunately closed on some of the days that we stayed - however the outside kitchen and bbq area provided everything we needed to make easy meals and when the restaurant was open we took full advantage of the amazing restaurant. The chef Joe does a great job making beautiful food with generous portion sizes! When we did have the chance to eat in the restaurant we were very impressed! We spent the first 4 nights in our tent and the last night in a bunk room. Although there are only two showers they provide great water pressure and very hot water which is a plus staying in a tent! Edoras (Mt Sunday) was magical - we hiked it 3 times during our stay (once at sunrise, once mid day and once at sunset) each time the natural beauty blew us away! My husband is an avid LOTR fan so Edoras was top on his list and it didn’t disappoint! It is his favourite filming location to date! We also hiked Mt Guy which provided a beautiful 360 view of the area and walked around the beautiful lake Emma to the historic hut. We would highly recommend Mt Potts lodge to other like minded travellers who value great customer service, beautiful nature and an off the beaten track vibe! Thank you Jack, Joe and the rest of the team - who knows you may see us again on our way back up north!!

A lovely homey place with incredible views, great food and service and amazing history in a spectacular part of New Zealand! I loved the kūmara fries especially! I am walking Te Araroa and was so grateful to stumble onto Mt Potts and get a tent site. Don’t miss it!

Accidentally stumbled upon this place camping near Clearwater, Amazing Staff, Great Views and Food. 10/10 ended up using one of their powered campsites for our RV got some breakfast and coffee and rolled out the next morning coming in from Texas this was a great first stop.
