The hotel is absolutely fabulous, all the staff were extremely welcoming on our arrival, Villa just perfect, felt so private on our pool terrace and really felt like we were immersed in nature. Monkeys and Peacocks wandering the grounds were wonderful to watch. The bicycles were a great touch and made it easy to get around. Food exceptional with a wide variety of choices on the menu. We were very lucky to experience a rice paddy cutting ceremony when we were there which was so authentic, we also really enjoyed our kamatha dining experience - a real sample of traditional Sri Lankan cooking. Finally we went on a safari from the hotel to Wilpattu national park - a must do activity if you have time - we were able to see so many different types of bird and other wildlife species including elephants and it felt much quieter than some of the other national parks we went to later on in the holiday. We would highly recommend this hotel, ideally located to see some of the top cultural sites as well as national parks, and the hotel is even more beautiful and peaceful than the photos show, you will not be disappointed by a stay here!

This was our 3rd visit to Uga Ulagalla and this time we highly noted the big difference with overall involvement of the General Manager Dimuthu. The staff was warm, attentive and provided an excellent service throughout our stay. Kamatha dining experience was on another level with scrumptious authentic Sri Lankan dishes and outstanding service. All in all, we had an amazing stay. Thank you all 🙏.

Room was out of this world, basically a suite with it's own private plunge pool. The property is large so they offer buggies to collect and deliver you to your room but really it's not necessary as it's only a 10 minute walk to the resort centre where there is a bar, restaurant and a huge pool. We had the Kamatha meal one night which is their take on a traditional village celebration meal - I've never seen such a variety of dishes and all very tasty. If I'm honest I'm not sure the restaurant lived up to the rest of the resort but overall a great experience.

Wonderful hotel in beautiful surroundings. The suites are spacious, tastefully decorated and very private. This can mean a bit of a walk to the ‘hub’ but it’s a lovely one (lit at night) and buggies and bikes are available. The staff are attentive and friendly. It’s a great base for visiting the temples and wildlife parks in the region. We only had 2 nights but could have stayed longer.

My husband and I visited this hotel as part of our honeymoon travelling Sri Lanka and it was a wonderful stop off. We loved our private plunge pool, the beautiful nature of the grounds and the proximity to lots of activity areas. The staff were wonderful and couldn’t have done more for us. Kusal in particular was incredibly helpful and kind. We also very much enjoyed the dining experience in the paddy field and the two sister chefs were absolutely wonderful. Their food and hospitality were brilliant. Thanks for the great memories!

We arrived to this paradise in a rainy day and yet the place was so warm full and cozy. We loved the villas, the swimming pool, the main building, the outdoors were magical. The staff was fantastic and we loved how Kusai took care of our journey, always attentive to our schedule so we could have the best experience ever. We are definetly coming back !

The ritual welcome of lighting the lamp and ringing the bell at the entry was a lovely way to begin our stay here. We had a beautiful suite of very spacious, superbly furnished rooms in a villa right on the outer edge of the estate with views over paddy fields from our terrace and pool. The staff are lovely, all very friendly and helpful. The buggies that ferry you around the place were always quick to arrive. A horse ride one morning around the estate and out to the lake and village was wonderful, a gentle walk on Rolex, a lovely horse who likes his palm leaves! Very varied selection of food on offer for lunch and dinner, over the course of a couple of days our choices included meaty prawns, though a little light on taste; good pork ribs, though a little fatty, and the pak choi they were served with was inedible - very stringy; reasonable fillet steak; very good fish, prawn and squid tempura with a dressed salad. The Elephant Research Centre does extremely good work with the local communities including the children, promoting their understanding and tolerance of the elephants in the area.
