Matachica Beach Resort Ambergris Caye

Matachica? More like Mata-wow. Or better yet: a slice of Heaven on Earth!!What an amazing experience. I can't say enough good things about it. The food was fantastic, the resort was perfect: extremely clean, beautiful and peaceful. We stayed in Papaya, a casita on the beach, and it was awesome to wake up to a view of the beautiful water. The staff went out of their way to be kind, polite, friendly, and always kept a smile on their faces. My husband and I felt like we were so special because of the warmth and genuine kindness each and every staff member showed. While I can't remember every person's name that we "made friends with", a special shout out to: Julio, always had a twinkle in his eye; Josue (& brother Carlos?!) who was always so polite and warm, Aaron, our gregarious beach helper; and Henry, our boat driver, who remembered my name, even though we only met on day 1 and day 7! We are already wondering when we can return!!

Wow where to begin - we had the most amazing vacation ever at Matachica. From the gorgeous grounds, unbeatable service, cleanliness and some of the best food we have ever had the whole experience was just perfect. However, the staff makes the entire experience. They are so kind and thoughtful and truly want to make each guest's time at Matachica the best it can be. We got to know a lot of them and they are the sweetest and happiest people. There's no way we could mention them all but Andre, Julio, Josue, Archie, Aaron, Lance, Gustavo, Kiden, Tony, Silvano, Jose, Moises, Carlos, Jorge, Stephen, Heidi and all others were amazing and really made our time at Matachica so special! The food and cocktails are so good, we raved over every meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and the daily changing pastries were highlight for us. Everything is so fresh, creative and delicious. I cannot say enough great things about Matachica. From our arrival via boat to the day we left the resort, everything was amazing! We were only there for a short visit (January 11th-14th), but it was one of the best resorts we've visited, and we are blessed to travel frequently. The weather during our stay was perfect, we had one morning when it rained and was a little cloudy, but otherwise no issues. I had originally requested a bungalow with a pool, but decided being directly on the beach would be ideal. I'm so glad we did it. We were in the Papaya bungalow which was about ten feet from the beach. Every morning we watched the sunrise either from our front porch or from our bed. The views were magnificent! The room had everything you needed, and the turndown service at night was wonderful. The beds were so incredibly comfortable and I love there was NO TV. The concierge did the best job setting us up with a golf cart to go to Secret Beach and suggesting restaurants off the property to try. We were celebrating my birthday and did a dinner on the pier one night. The experience was incredible. We had the best moonlight for ambience and the food was delicious (the food was delicious every day...you can't go wrong). My husband knew I really wanted to see sea turtles and Henry was kind enough to offer to take us out for an afternoon, even though we had scheduled a tour the following day. The experience didn't disappoint. We went to two different places, getting off the boat into the water was like jumping into an aquarium. I was able to Zen with turtles at both spots! We also did a sunset cruise one evening, the sunsets are the most incredible I've witnessed. Upon our arrival back to the resort there was live music playing in the bar. We had originally decided against doing the Captain's Dinner, but changed our mind at the last minute and I'm so glad we did! The food was amazing and we met some really fun people. We spent one day at the pool for some relaxation time, it was very relaxing and the bartenders at Danny's Tree Bar make delicious cocktails with fun garnishes shaped in different designs. I felt like everyone went out of their way to make my birthday special, whether it was a welcome message made out of palm leaves on our bed, to a personally hand written note, the MANY birthday treats I had (Key Lime Pie, cakes, fresh papaya when we departed with a Happy Birthday message). It was such a great experience and I highly recommend the resort to anyone wanting to visit Belize who are looking for a relaxing place to stay. I have never seen my husband so relaxed on a vacation! Shout out the Henry and to Archie...and I apologize to those I'm not mentioning because you were all so wonderful!

Have you ever dreamt of a tropical paradise with the most amazing turquoise water, manicured beaches, world class service, delicious food and impeccable watersports… the Matachica Resort and Spa is just that! This is a high end boutique resort with just 32 casitas, a gym, spa, pool/hot tub, tree bar and 2 restaurants. We hand picked Matachica for our birthday celebration, and were blown away by how beautiful the resort accommodations were, and the high end service was amazing! Everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, landscaping team, ocean sports and tour operators were top notch. I’ve traveled a lot and this resort is WOW incredible!!! This is a bucket list resort of your looking to relax, be spoiled, and enjoy the most amazing island in Belize!! Hats off to team Matachica, we will definitely be back!!! Paul

Almost all of the staff were incredibly wonderful, helpful. Unfortunately we had a few bad experiences: there were bugs in our bed, biting our ankles, feet. The staff member we told was the one who didn’t project the type of service you’d expect. We were moved to another room we’re we immediately found bugs in those beds too. We asked if there were any other beds, we were told there was one single bed as an alternate option but that was it. The next day it was time to leave and we discovered the resort was only 60% full so why weren’t we offered any of the other empty beds? We got food poisoning as did another guest at the same time. It was awful except that the staff were exceptionally sympathetic and kind bringing tea water toast etc to our room while we tried to rally. And the manager let us know they’d take us to a hospital if we wanted. That gave us piece of mind. Our reservation letter confirmed 3 meals a day. At check in we were told that was a typo. The snorkeling outing was a lot of fun, as advertised.

The service and staff here are first class. Most friendly, helpful, kind, always there when you need them. The GM, Jorge is top class individual, down to earth. We love this place. Definitely coming back. They had Taco Tuesday, Rum tasting, etc. The Casitas/rooms are very nicely set up, they serviced morning and afternoon. Loved it.
